Footballrumormill.com - Jones likely to resign or be fired

I hope this is not true. June has done a great deal for SMU and the program. 4 bowl games in 5 years speaks volumes.
Re: Footballrumormill.com - Jones likely to resign or be fir
Student support of June Jones is close to 0%, so it would certainly help in that realm (although realistically it won't fix much without a exciting hire, and even then its SMU students we are talking about).

Some remind me again about the famous "Pencil" remarks story again

knuckle up - you do realize that over 60 of the approx 120 D-1 schools get in bowls - right? June remains in the top 5 salaried non BCS (sorry - one fleeting yr of BCS does not count) - coaches - and we are 6 yrs into his efforts - and we are basically nowhere. We are better than horrible, but a long way from good.

When discussing the Rice game at the end of the season recap at Ozona's, he mentioned that he wasn't surprised as he had penciled it in as a loss before the season began.stc9 wrote:Some remind me again about the famous "Pencil" remarks story again

35 Bowls
70 Teams
124 Division 1A teams although I think about 2-3 are in transition years and may not be eligible
so almost 60% of Division 1A teams will go to a bowl

Most agree that he has done a great deal. The four bowl games aren't really the concern, except that his stated goal was Hawaii and not a conference championship, and maybe the Armed Forces disaster. There are many more layers that are all discussed here on the board.knuckleup wrote:I hope this is not true. Those numbers are just absurd. Bowl games literally mean nothing now other than a couple extra weeks of practice which certainly helps.Stallion wrote:35 Bowls

Morris is making $1.3 million at Clemson. I believe that is the highest paid assistant in the country. To get him to SMU I bet we'd have to go above $2 million, possibly $2.5

I heard that they could not find anyone willing to sponsor it this year.smusic 00 wrote:No, we had the happy hours at Ozona's and the famous 'pencil' remarks. Then this year, nothing. Thank you for qualifying that statement. SMU students support little other than themselves. It's a tradition.

Couldn't find a sponsor for it.stc9 wrote:Why did the lunches and Happy Hours end? Was a reason ever given?Mustangsabu wrote:June no longer has a public function in which to interface with the fans. His "mustangs" no longer feature at games, and there has been no comment as to why.
Those are not insignificant barometers of the importance of the coach to the program.
