Re: Baker Mayfield
Years ago... A coach couldn't talk to a player at another school, unless it was cleared through the players athletic department first. I had to jump through those hoops when I was looking to transfer. Does anyone know if this is still the case? If it is, our staff cannot talk to Mayfield until he contacts SMU and gets that process started.

Once the player is officially released by the school then contact can be made by other schools.

Damn I'd be all over this like white on rice. If we don't get him shame on this staff!!
Re: Baker Mayfield
I really doubt this kid is going to want to transfer to a non P5 school after playing so well at Tech.

We'll get him, all he has to do is get down on his knees and beg to play for us.

What P5s in state are going to get him? We are the best option within Texas in which he will develop himself and start. He did want to play at TCU so we are not that much different than them and we are on the rise.

We are on a rise?? What do you base that statement on?

I think he is holding the bar chart upside down.

SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.

We are on the rise since 2009. We are no longer the post death penalty SMU. Granted we had a bump in the road this year, and we are not at a P5 level yet, but we are headed in the right direction and we can only improve from here. I am optimistic we will do well no matter what direction we take in coaching...only difference will be how fast will we notice the imrovements.
With a coach like Chad Morris, I will say we will improve at a faster rate and bring a more exciting offense than if we stayed with JJ. But even with JJ we will be competitive in our conference and may have a chance to beat a P5 team every now and then.

We were one player (Gilbert) away from 1-11 or 0-12.
