FF, where did you hear that he did allow police to search his house. I checked the FWST website about 30 mins. ago and the updated story did not mention that

Let's say Fields really was getting up early and not crawling in after a really late night.

If there are willing to jump this big, strong guy who has a certain gift for (on the field) mayhem, it sounds like there was nothing random about this. It seems that they had to be looking for him, which raises the question of why?

Fields was on his way to an NCAA mandated drug test.

This was the second robbery in the area between 5:00 - 6:00 am this week.

Thanks for the explanation. Makes sense now.

You are correct but the other robbery was by one man who went in to an apartment where a girl was asleep and stole some things, then noticed the girl stirring and threw her phone to the other side of the room, then left (per the TCU crime alert posted on KillerFrogs). Slightly different than this one where there were three men who confronted Fields as he walked out of his door then went in and took stuff.

Not saying anything negative about Fields but the two events were quite different so I'm not sure that you can establish this as a connected crime.

Right. I'm accepting the fact that he had to get up and go someplace, and more than anything, I'm glad he's OK. But gun or no gun, it takes some major juevos to take on a guy that big and strong (and if he's anything like most people I know, he's an angry SOB when he gets up that early). I hope he's completely innocent of any wrongdoing, and that he doesn't have any fallout from this. It just seems to me that if I'm out to mug someone AT 5 IN THE MORNING (?), and I see a guy who can run me down and beat me senseless, I'm looking for another victim.

Very true. Certainly wasn't trying to suggest the two were related. The intent was to convey that crime has been an ongoing issue in that area.

If I'm going to rob someone at gunpoint, they're probably not going to fit the profile of Devante Fields

Definitely. FWPD may have to step up patrols. Not sure if TCU PD has overlapping jurisdiction in that neighborhood or not

Since we don't know who the robber(s) were he (they) could have been just as big or bigger than Fields. We just don't know from my understanding.

What seems lost, yet kind of important in all this, did he ever make it to that drug test? He may have not wanted the cops in his house so he could focus on that cleanse...
