Surprised no one has mentioned this yet, or if it has been I've just missed it - a giant Peruna is apparently being installed on the west facade of Expressway Tower, facing campus - as of a few days ago all that had been installed is the tip of the tail and the tip of the snout...

I hope they got this one correct and it is not a phony pony!

+1. Our logo is great.

Nice. That was announced at the Kick-off luncheon - but I forgot about it. Good move.

At the rate they seem to be going, though, the installation <<might>> be finished in time for our first home football game - been the same two bits up there for almost two weeks now. Although the tail tip was lit up one night earlier this week, too.

Heard this before:

Ford Auto may have been influenced by an SMU (under Hayden Fry) at Michigan game in 1963.
Already, "Mustang" had been suggested by two individuals credited with the official name, one was a fan of the WW2 P51 Mustang, the other a breeder of quarterhorses. Coincidentally, the vehicle debuted the following year, 1964.

I wouldn't propose changing the classic SMU logo, either. HOWEVER, I have a huge problem that we don't have a cool alternate logo that appeals to the unaffiliated. The classic look doesn't have much street appeal, and for the last few years our alternate logo has been a "vintage" horse with Downs Syndrome--I don't know why, or what it means, but that's what it is. That needs to be scrapped in favor of an alternate (not replacement) logo that high schoolers buy and wear in their hallways, just because it looks awesome. I imagine you would take inspiration from the modernized Broncos logo, with the head, neck, and mane only, and a face that means business. Of course, you would only keep the Mustang going to the right.

Pony up tonight!!

All this is silly. Win & all these absurd doubts about our logo will go away.

If we desire another logo bring back a logo or two from our past.

Nah, while I will always stand behind your tags and wish we would go back to Harvard crimson and Yale blue, winning isn't going to make our logo look less plain. There's a reason why every corporation in America is not still using their logo from 1911, nor returning to logos from the past. I respectfully dissent. Having a more wearable logo would go a long way, I think.

Good point but no more than three but one primary. I believe Arkansas has had several for many decades.

Wholeheartedly agree on the colors.

Let's change it to a Hawaiian Warrior like our helmet stickers. This will fix our lack of talent. We could get two big Mustangs as well. We are losing talent cause the kids today don't respect Shetland Ponies.

a little off topic but:

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2179 ... ts/page/31

"Peruna. Usually ranked among the best mascots in college sports,"

anyway, I love our logo. it's running free and fast. so good that Ford Mustang copied it for over 50 years. if it wasn't cool, Ford would have changed it long ago to appear to a younger, street gangster or whatever, consumer.
