LB is known as a superb teacher Mack Brown isn't. Big difference. Mack just recruited well enough to overcome the coaching deficiencies. But I believe he could get here and win about 7 games per year and while sitting back making a cool 2 mil per year and most everyone would be happy.

I'd be happy if we improved by an average of three wins a season. The same standard I applied to JJ.

We all want long term success but in todays college football, isnt all about the short term and trying to make ourselves as sexy as possible to someway get into a P5 conference. A young up and comer might be great long term but if any realignment is up for discussion soon how could you not want Mack Brown. He is the guy that could sell us to a P5 commissioner and maybe help us over that hurdle. I dont think there is anyway he would come here but if he did we should all be ecstatic that he is here.

I hope Scott Frost gets an interview if he's interested in the job.

There's isn't a single P5 conference that would be suckered into inviting us solely on the basis of Mack Brown being our football coach. Those invites are about the size of your fanbase and how well you draw on TV and we're at least a decade away from being viable on either of those fronts no matter what coach gets hired.

I still think it will be someone more anonymous, a successful guy from a lower-profile school.

it could be

that's happened many times-that's how we got Ron Meyer who was about our 6th choice

guys like Hudspeth-I don't know much about him other than every time I watch them play in a New Orleans Bowl they have kicked someone's [deleted] from a better conference for last 3 years. Need to interview these guys-hopefully one sells himself like Meyer (right guy) and unfortunately Bennett (wrong guy) did

Whether its a retread, or a retread with a coach in waiting (my choice), you want someone who will get great players to come to SMU. If you get a Mack Brown, coupled with a Ramon Flanagan or an up and coming coordinator as assistant head coach, you get the recruiter and the mind. Whomever we hire, they have to be more inspired than our recent head coach in the area of recruiting. Last, but not least, don't wait until mid-January to hire the guy.

Fulmer won 10 games and the SEC East at in his second to last season and went 5-7 in his last. He left about 8 future NFL players for Kiffin also. If that's terrible, I can live with it.

Really sad when a school has sunk so low that the fans want coaches that nobody else wants to hire.

I will. Mack did less with more talent at UT during the last several years than anyone could have imagined. Mack relied on some of the highest paid assistants in college football to get what he did out of his players, and those guys aren't coming to SMU. Mack would be a nightmare boss for any assistant who is willing to work at SMU wages as his assistants are regularly thrown under the bus. What makes anyone think that he will succeed here with much less of everything than he had at UT?
