We've been crap for 25 years with incompetent athletes and a dope-dope administration...justify an entitlement to +25,000 fans for just stepping on the field?

We were also very close to having Emanuel Mudiay on the bball team. Neither happened, so neither maters.
And that would have been the first time in forever. That doesn't justify expecting fans of a long dead fan base to show up.

Exactly- I was at that game and brought a number of family with me. First, you have to win consistently against known competition to get the attention of the Dallas fan. You also need to play teams that have a Dallas following as well- i.e. former SWC foes.
They just don't seem to believe that nobody cares about a UConn. or Memphis and those teams don't travel so part of the stadium will always be empty until become nationally ranked on a consistent basis.

We got annihilated by USM...solidifying the idea that TCU was a "lucky win"...which it was.

I wasn't criticizing SMU's football team. I was criticizing the school's population who would rather party on a street outside the stadium.

It's not that appealing for athletes to come play for a d1 college who has 4A high school crowds.
Thatis an insult to 4A football!

Beasley also tweeted that SMU need to of an education major so he wasn't just talking about attendance.

Or we go....
Option #2 - Double enrollment, cut out the concentration on geographical diversity to make it once again a truly Dallas dominated school, cut tuition to align it with state school rates (walk-on friendly) and wait 10 years. They will beg us to join the power conferences....
Option #3 - Hire MIT graduates and go Moneyball
Option #4 - Hire Bill Belichick or Sean Payton (who lives in Dallas) now that their teams are on downward spirals
Option #5 - All of the above..

IMO we do have 'athletic friendly' major programs.

The bottom line is that the fball team didn't succeed on the field at critical times. Bball could have laid an egg against UConn but they WON. Beat tech or Baylor or ATM and you'd see a full ford trust me. It's still simply about winning and losing. Each time they had a chance to show out they laid an egg. Yes we won at TCU but it was just one game. And it was away. Beat someone really relevant and the crowds would come. Like it or not that's just the way it is. People are inherently self interested. More fun on blvd than watching a team either get blown out yet again or beat a sorry team we have no tradition with that sucks. Bball won, fball didn't. Bottom line. You'll always have your die hards but can't fill a stadium with them.
And oh by the way, Beasley kind if an odd ball. There was the Im quitting fball thing. Then I go to training camp and we're all decked out in smu gear and wait for literally 30 min while he goes down the line and the second he gets to us he turns and runs into the locker room for no apparent reason. My daughters were all very excited. Eff him. He has a shelf life. His 15 min are almost up.

#2. We need to double enrollment. Do in state tuition rate for DFW area locals possibly. Other privates like BYU have a competitive in state tuition rate to allow for members of their church in that case to have an education at a rate similar to the state schools.

So in other words "I wasn't criticizing the team, just the university and all alumni from there".
What a dumbsh*t. I liked you cole but you are making it pretty hard to continue to root for you.

Cole is reciting the JJ BS. He would complain about the lack of butts in the seats, but never ever thanked the faithful who had been through 20 years of sub .500 records who still showed up to support the team. JJ expected the Dallas fans to look at him like a god the way they did in Hawaii, and when they didn't he was pissed. You want more fans to come...show some respect for the fans that do and win some [deleted] games.

BYU enrollment is 34K and they charge $5000 if LDS and $8-10K non LDS. If SMU wants to let's say double enrollment to 13K which is BU level, they could afford to cut tuition significantly. At least we can start shedding the "most expensive school" stigma.

Good way to drop in the academic rankings, too.
SMU's applications aren't high enough to increase enrollment without losing the "More Selective" label in the rankings.
