I would say that would about right but due to the new NCAA rules on JUCO transfers it will be hard for the next coach to get any quality JUCO's.

The good news is we'll have 16 starters back. The bad news is we'll have 16 starters back.

If we have a massive talent problem and not a youth problem, then it would infer that we would be a very bad team for the next two to three years. A limited recruiting class this year because the coach will come in late means we will be awful in 2015. That next recruiting class will lead to a little uptick in 2016 because they are all young. And then we should be at least mediocre in 2017.
Just to be clear, is that the opinion of most of you? 0-2 wins 2015, 1-4 2016 and then .500 in 2017?

Nope. We can win a few of these next year and then be somewhat competitive in 2016 with the right coaches. A .500 record gets you a bowl on AAC.

The reality is that half of this roster is made of kids who don't belong at the D1A level. Some will transfer out and there will be some attrition, but we still won't have the talent to win more than a few games in 2015. Maybe if the new coach is able to lure a top flight QB recruit or transfer we can at least be competitive.
That's the most insane thing about what June did here. We have like 5 scholarship QB's and there isn't one of them that belongs on a D1A roster.

We saw that one or two players at the right positions on offense and defense can cover up for a lot of talent deficiencies. The season we are having now might have happened last year had GG not come to SMU. So if the new coach can get about 1 or 2 impact players on offense and 1 or 2 on defense then the team could get better quicker.

I don't know if the progression will be even that steady.
We are in for 3-5 more years of 1-3 wins per season, 4 if we get crazy lucky.

The coach can make an immediate difference (as mentioned, see LB and Malzahn). In some ways this thread, and the question, is moot until that decision is made. Bring on Chad BrownBeatySpavanl, and then let's see
