They got rid of the one coach who brought in brees and got them to win for a while because the program had stagnated, and they haven't won since.

I thought the footballdad comment was funny, mainly because I have several relatives who went to Purdue and I know their pain.

to their credit they didn't get [deleted]- slapped by any of the several Top 25 teams on their schedule and defensively-not bad. Maybe I'm jaded by the weekly 40-50+put up on SMU

And in addition they have a pretty good record as an educational institution. IIRC their engineering school is rated pretty high.

They produced a good number of Apollo and Shuttle astronauts.

Actually, the coach they won under (Joe Tiller) retired. The next coach (Danny Hope) was on Tiller's staff but he couldn't sustain it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Pu ... ll_seasons

Cool convo about Purdue...

Anyway looks like Tech might be getting into the race for Warren:

Billy Embody ‏@BillyEmbody
Bad news for #SMU if #GunsUp offers #CUJO DB Isaac Warren. @Xx_Warren_xX tells me SMU would be out of his top 2. Tech visits him tomorrow.

Why recruits want to live in Lubbock I'll never understand.

Yeah, I never get the appeal of Tech. I guess some folks just want to get out of Dallas.

Power conference, 60K fans per game probably has something to do with it.

But our fans will jump on the bandwagon when we win 10 games 3 straight years-then WATCH OUT and we'll do that right after JasonB finds 10 teams we can beat because these kids can't wait to play Texas Lutheran, Quachita Baptist and Sewanee

Sounds like a plan, since it worked well for TCU, Baylor and the teams from "back home" it has to work for SMU too because I'm told our situation is exactly like theirs

You ever been to Lubbock? I'm not talking vs. SMU, I am talking in general. You have to actually live there too, 60K people and P5 conference counts for about 12 Saturdays out of 365 days of the year.

Yeah I've been there and it's basically a $hithole surrounded by desert but it's still home to a power conference team with a huge fanbase (which is a big deal to many recruits) and it's not like they have to live there forever.

Again, most recruits could care less about how cool a city is, they want to be taken care of without any hassles - plenty of girls, booze (other stuff), parties and get treated like a star. Lubbock can do that as well as any city/town.

Some day our fans will get that the majority of recruits could care less about what school their degree has on it.
