I miss the Varsity Bookstore.

no... But this is driving me crazy.

Whatever it was looked like something out of the 50s, served ok pizza and milkshakes etc among other things. Northwest Highway and Hillcrest or so
(just realized prob talking about a different 7-11. Maybe it's where capital one is now?)

I'm with you now. What was that place's name? I'll ask the wife in the morning. I think they closed about 2005 or so.

When I did not go to 7-11 on Mockingbird for my after bar snack, I went to the Kips Big Boy on Mockingbird (and Abrams?). Would get Cheeseburger, fries and a bowl of chili. Their chili was great after a few rounds.

Anyone remember, Judge Roy Beans? Greenville and Park Lane. I was a proud member of their Hall of Fame. You had to drink 64 oz. of a frozen margarita in one visit, or maybe it was 128 oz. I can't remember for some reason

Yes I do; classic spot. Mariano's Old Town had a similar deal. 64oz frozen marg and you keep the glass. Still have mine.

Our late night trips were usually to a place called the Waffle House on Hillcrest (by SMU). I remember the guy that worked there was named Blanton (ex-con and very funny guy). Or for beer and pizza we went to Gordo's which was in an area next to Mrs. Beards bread.

Gordo's was originally located at Cole and Knox Street. As a kid I loved their burger pizza made on a hamburger bun.
Did anyone ever take their dates to the Tabu Room on Lomo Alto.? Great jazz night club and Italian food. My dates loved it because they had never been there. That was a cool place

Taboo. Was there for decades at Lomo Alto and Lemmon. First jazz club I ever went to, aged 18!

Disagree- the original was across M'bird next to Mrs. Bairds. The small strip where they were located was sold off and they closed. Later opened in the area you refer to. After some time IIRC it was sold to Jim Hammond (SMU bball player) and a couple of other 'investors".

IIRC Gary Ferguson and a couple of other fball players worked part-time at the M'bird location while they were in school.

no problem - it was a favorite hang-out of SMU students as they never checked IDs.
