Who is 'they' just for the record? Too many things going on to keep my generic pronouns straight.

How did anyone know to go after his laptop? How did this rumor grow legs? That is what I would love to know. Trust there is an outside Infiniti driving this. We need to know who that is. Capiche?

If there was any thought that Maligi helped someone out in some way that was inappropriate, or if Maligi sat someone for Ketih in a test, he would have been fired a long time ago...

I can only see the laptop being an issue regarding the Kimball era grade stuff if it contains emails with promises or instructions or threats to the teachers/aides if Keith didn't get a new grade. Am I just that old to be amazed at the prospect that DISD would be offering tests online?
If there are issues regarding 1st semester grades, then I can see the laptop being a much greater issue. If that is the case, they just need a good enough cover explaining why Keith had to take anything using that computer. Not too difficult to determine what IP was used to log in to the online course site for a specific student.
This looks more and more like it will become a PR battle, absent Magili being a raging moron. With that SI story, the NCAA will try to turn all current academic issues into their new issue-du-jour so they can feign sincerity and strength...while also being able to continue to ignore the UNC issue. With the number of schools supposedly linked to the SI case (including UNC, gasp, shock of all shocks), I bet at least a few proactive and rich state schools are using boosters to research more about UNC's big scandal (that seems to still have only been investigated by a UNC related group, unless I missed a recent update on that) so they can bring that data to the table when the NCAA starts asking questions. If that happens, then SMU and other smalls will be faced with the talls of the world walking while we, once again, suffer the pain.
And if this golf aspect only deals with a few hats and other emblematic items...WTF is compliance doing when it comes to training coaches AND athletes?

I'm pretty sure coaches are required to use School electronic devices-that's one way they track visits, contacts, email, tweets through the school's compliance department. Same thing with any corporation you'd request "electronic information and documents" from e-mail, texts etc. They got experts that can download everything

This is true.

BTW I took a look online at the Original Petition filed by Anita Connally (former Director of Compliance) against DISD for Whistleblower wrongful termination. No mention of SMU or Keith Frazier. It does seem based upon my own knowledge of the facts that she may have been directed to investigate future District Coaches meetings partly as a result of situations like the Keith Frazier incident but her involvement came later and related more to the transfer issues and seemingly not grade changes

Is that good news or no news where SMU is concerned?

I think its good news because there doesn't appear to be any real areas of potential discovery or depositions related to SMU or Frazier which could be enforced by subpoena or Court order. She did describe a culture of fraud and dishonesty relating to transfer issues among District Basketball coaches though

Thanks for the answer. It would seem to me that pretty much any school that has a scholarship athlete from disd should be a little nervous about the Frazier situation. I don't live the Dallas area but I seem to remember reading about quite a few situations where grades were changed.

SMU has not heard from NCAA but still hopeful about Keith Frazier’s appeal
http://collegesportsblog.dallasnews.com ... peal.html/It cannot be that serious if they still are expecting him to play.

@GoodmanESPN
Southern Miss has now released a statement officially announcing that the school is self-imposing postseason ban for this year.

I think this is a situation where the DISD put pressure on teachers to change grades in order to get their own kids into college. Once people started sniffing around, it is the "oh no, it isn't us" and they push it up to the college recruiters. NCAA has to investigate.
My opinion, but I don't think there is any way Turner backs brown to get Frazier into school without doing the due diligence to know we weren't involved in anything. And other schools aren't going to pressure anyone to change grades either. This is a DISD issue and not an SMU issue.
The fact that LB and the school are hopeful on KF's appeal simply means it is an ACADEMIC issue with his GPA at SMU, it is NOT related to anything else. All the rumors flying around just don't make any sense.
I could be wrong about all of that, and maybe SMU is cheating all over the place and I just don't know about it. But knowing the people involved and how serious people at the university take this stuff, I just don't think there is any way. I will be extremely disappointed if we have committed any major infractions. Like I said before, Maligi would be gone already if the school thought we did. We would get ahead of things like we always have by doing self imposed sanctions and restrictions.
