On our last drive, everyone was wanting to milk the clock.
Problem is we had runs of 30 & 19 yards. How do you slow play that?????

Perfect situation for that.

We definitely should've beaten them but here's the way I see it. We are going to give up a ton of points all year long. We may have the worst statistical defense in the fbs when it's all said and done. Our tackling and coverage capabilities aren't going to drastically improve with "better coaching". I think it's realistic to hope that our coaches will try to put people in the best possible situation to succeed which they haven't done thus far. Blitz less, and for heaven's sake put someone in the middle of the field. Hopefully we get a few stops and that's enough for our offense to win a few games.
At the end of the day talent wins out. Coaches don't tackle and they don't cover, players do. At least we are fun to watch, which is a massive improvement over last year.

Basically we are on the same talent level as JMU. I think WE all get that.
So then it comes down to coaching and players making plays. Both of which we lacked tonight.

By not hurrying back up to the line and snapping it again

I posted it on the pre-game thread. Our lineup is way, way more highly recruited. We have double digit 3 stars and a 4 star QB.
JMU had the 3 star QB transfer, one WR who was 3 star (no P5 or G5 offers, I'm guessing grade risk), and exactly zero other recruits with a P5 or G5 offer or any stars.
JMU may go undefeated, and the QB may win the Walter Payton award, but that doesn't change the fact that everyone in the stadium saw how flat we came out for the entire first half. Everyone there thought it was a miracle we were only down by 3 at half with how we played. And I think the majority of people out at the game had the opinion that we were underprepared.
We have had two games against "lesser" opponents and have come out completely flat both times. UNT wasn't good enough to take advantage of it. JMU was. I love what CM has done so far, but that is on the coaching staff. We did not compete physically the way we did against Baylor or TCU or the defense did against UNT.

I guess Everett Withers evaluated his DITR's better than June. June nor his staff were very good talent evaluators as we are seeing on field regarding of what any report says.

JMU was in the lead for the majority of the game. If not for some interceptions because of bad throws and an onside kick recover SMU may have lost by much more than 3 points.

One 3 point loss to a team with equal ranking, you want someone's head already
See my prediction below submitted last summer

Yep, honestly we were pretty damn lucky they kept throwing it. On that last pick Lee threw I was certain they were going to call a QB draw right up the middle for a TD.

What a [deleted] thread. We got our [deleted] beat. Got it. They were better than us. We were lucky to be in the game and wouldn't have been if their [deleted] coach doesn't inexplicably throw a pass late in First Half and then again on 3rd and 4 in the Red Zone. Both passes were intercepted. It should have been much worse. They are a better football team on offense and defense than SMU. It wasn't coaching-they were better than SMU
