Well, you just can't keep everyone on the team. That's the way it is. Much harder losing Jalen Jones a couple years ago, I guess. But even Jalen didn't have a spot on the team.

Grand opening. Grand closing.

We never got to see much from him, but I wish him the best going forward.

In the meantime, that frees up a much needed scholarship.

One thing that could hold up #SMU G Sedrick Barefield's release is his current GPA would hurt SMU's APR, multiple sources told @SMUScout.

it's a shame he had to waste a year but sitting out a transfer year might be a good thing for him; just too much talent on this roster and he wasn't going to take minutes from Nic or Shake. With the frosh coming in next year, competition will remain tough. Bottom line is that this will free up a spot for the bigs we need

Good. Now we can move on without a primadonna who was demanding minutes despite not being able to get his academics in order and despite being third on the depth chart at the PG position behind Nic and Shake. I hope he does well wherever he ends up but he needs more maturity to understand that you have to earn what you want.

Don't think he was a primadonna demanding minutes. The young man has always carried himself in a very respectful way towards SMU. Just the academics things just did not click here. Also, was having a tough time learning the system like KF did in his first year. No need to bash the young man, Just sometimes things to do work and you move on.

Are you kidding? His parents used John Lucas to bash the SMU coaching staff as soon as Sed was very clearly not getting minutes. They were our version of Grandstaff's dad. Like I said I wish the kid well but let's not sugar coat the situation by glossing over the mud-slinging that was done.

I don't know much about Sed personally, but as a fan, I was looking forward to seeing him play. It certainly looked as if he would have been able to earn his fair share of minutes his sophomore year and beyond. As a decently regarded recruit, I can see where he might have been frustrated essentially getting the same minutes as a walk on, but I'm not sure it was accurate to think he would have taken minutes from Nic and/or Shake this year unless one of them was injured. Good luck. I'll be interested to see how he performs in the future.

That was his parents not the kid.
