Hard to see Cronin giving up a Power Six job.

But even with all of this, the athletic department is still hemorrhaging money. The latest set of financial data shows that as of 2014, 46% of UC's athletic budget is subsidized from the general fund. And that's higher than any other "major" basketball school that Cronin's competing with. Add in the debt from Nippert Stadium's recent upgrade plus upcoming debt for a new Fifth Third Arena, and there just isn't any extra money lying around.

Cronin on the way home from Vegas with no deal. Speculation is that UC President Ono is making some incentives to keep him in Cinci.

I agree in the practical sense. I really don't even see him as being a big name coach. However, Cincinnati has to do everything in its power to protect its brand. Part of that is not having your coach be poached by other schools especially in non-power conferences and having it be at best a lateral move and moreso if the coach being poached is an alumnus from your university. Frankly, I don't understand why UNLV wants him.

UNLV and Cronin surprised me a little. I kind of wondered if Vegas would take a swing at Kelvin Sampson.

He and Bruce Pearl were the names mentioned early.
"Former UCLA and St. John’s coach Steve Lavin and current New Mexico State coach Marvin Menzies are believed to be among those interested in coaching the Rebels."

If I were UNLV I would make Reggie Theus head coach. That is the perfect fit.

Isn't he still the coach at Bayside HS?

Cronin is a bad culture fit at UNLV. They should look at Dan Majerle. Theus got nabbed for academic fraud at cal st northeidge. They weren't allowed in postseason either
