"Baylor is where the real cost bargain lies for a private education"

Not sure it is a bargain. Sometimes you get what you pay for.

We are inline with Rice and TCU.

Baylor is where the real cost bargain lies for a private education.

The cost to attend TCU for 2016-2017 will be $55,630. This is tuition, fees, books, room, and board.

You also have to take into account the amount of scholarships and grants that an institution offers you, as this will affect what you actually pay:

Acceptance rate:
Rice - 15%
Tulane - 28%
TCU - 49%
SMU - 52%
Baylor - 55%

acceptance rate is a totally and completely meaningless number it has absolutely no meaning for the quality of a university or the applicants of a university or the ease or difficulty of getting into a university

acceptance % has no demonstrable meaning to anything relating to the academics of a university or the students or applicants period

and here is what IPEDS has for applicants to each university from 2001 to 2014

2015:

SMU
Completed Applications 12,992
Acceptances 6,360
Enrolled 1,374
Avg. SAT 1309/1600

Baylor
Completed Applications 32,136
Acceptances 14,033
Enrolled 3,394
Avg. SAT 1230/1600

TCU
Total Applications 18,422
Completed Applications 12,765
Acceptances 7,973
Enrolled 2,072
Avg. SAT 1178/1600

Baylor may have more applications than SMU, but their entering class is approximately 2.5 times larger. Baylor started reporting completed applications in 2012, which is why their applications decreased by 11,000 between 2011 and 2012.

I can tell you based on personal experience that it's gotten much harder to get into Baylor in the last 2-3 years.

Many schools have seen price inflation that far outpaces the value of their education, especially the mid-tier privates like TCU, SMU & Baylor.
