We are screwed folks, just accept it. All the academic talk is fluff. 3 of 5 power conferences have 14 teams and now the Big 12 is moving toward having 14 as well. When the PAC 12 adds 2 more teams, it is over. 5 conferences all with 14 teams. Notre Dame is the wild card.

Who is the Pac-12 going to add to get to 14 if the B12 stabilizes? It's not going to be BYU, Boise, Colorado State, New Mexico, UNLV, Hawaii, or any of the CA state schools

Why would the PAC feel compelled to expand? If anything I bet this reignites their love for all things Longhorn and vice versa. Texas won't put up with being in a conference with Memphis, USF, and UCF when they could easily fit in with Cal, Stanford, USC, UCLA. Only a matter of time until ESPN cuts their losses with the LHN.
Back off Warchild seriously.

Our only hope is that we can cut a large enough check to buy our way in. If anything else is factored in, it's over.

So I guess my biggest question is: so what's the point? why join ANY P5 if we're going to suck? I don't want to be a doormat ANYWHERE - we were in the SWC in the early 90s when I was there (no fun). Maybe because of the money. That makes sense. But I just want us to WIN. Win now in the AAC and maybe get a P5 invite sometime soon and be at least competitive in that P5 for a while and with a similar level playing field, then maybe we can win. But we need a reputation as winner, NO MATTER WHERE WE GO. So I kind of ignore a lot of the conference stuff and just want us to WIN. Maybe I'm naive, but I think that solves most problems (for us - given where we are, etc). But we have to win and we HAVE to PROMOTE!! (we've had a little bit of winning here and there but couldn't promote it very well ... but look at what happens when both happens ala basketball - i think it can be done with football and then we can truly reignite some regional rivalries - "rivalry" means either team could win).

Just a matter of time until we are left in a [deleted] conference again and CM is long gone

A lower tier conference is all the fan base really justifies. Hart and Turner understand this as well.

Playing good football and trying to win an AAC championship is a worthy goal, which would also provide a very good football experience. Unfortunately, the City of Dallas, SMU students, and most alumni could care less about a competitive AAC football team.

As others have said, the next few years under Morris may be as good as it gets. Get out and enjoy it while it lasts.

When you name the schools in the American Athletic Conference and then the Powerhouse venues. It's Crystal Clear that we have football herpes

I suspect this could be our last hurrah as far as getting in a 'big boy' conference. IMO the problem is that RGT and his minions have no real level of commitment when it comes to making the effort to move up. I would imagine that Tilman Fertitta is on the phone 24x7 promoting cougar high to make sure they are at the top of any conversation regarding expansion while we hear nothing but crickets.

I hear you. And I agree. I just want to win also. If we have to be the best of the rest (once the music stops for good) then so be it. Win. I'd rather be the king of an ant mound than be stuck at the bottom of a mountain. But...I'm the kind of guy that always wants a chance. I look at TCU and Baylor and see that for a brief time in history they are competitive at the highest level. And I believe that SMU could the same thing. (None of it is sustainable over the long term, IMO, that is only a luxury the true elite of college sports can enjoy.) So, I'm just hoping at some point I can have my day in the sun with SMU athletics (and I want more than a single bball tourney bid). But that day looks more an more likely to never come. I'm too damn young to feel this damn old about this, but it is what it is. Need a drink on a Wed. afternoon. Let's see how productive I can be this afternoon after that happens.

Texas isn't going to the PAC 12. They can rattle their sabres all they want but they aren't leaving. They would be just another school out there where now they are the 800lb gorilla. They did just agree to have the commissioner explore schools. They will be just fine racking up wins against Cincy and Memphis and whomever else. Just like Ohio State enjoys getting easy wins against Indiana, Illinois, Northwestern and whomever else is down in a particular year........

whatever happens to us is our own fault. can't blame anyone else. we could have righted the ship many years ago but didn't. so now we pay the price. no one at smu would stand up and do what was necessary. pathetic. just pathetic.
