Can't believe Brewer has a pick this season.

He will be back next year.

Bates has dressed but not played the last two or three games, and Chad Morris has said at his last couple of press conferences that Bates is "getting close" to being ready to contribute. Maybe this week? We'll see.

Bates has taken the SMU fan mantra of "wait till next year" to a weekly basis. 8)

re redshirting - imo, NO one should be redshirted (unless injured) IF they are better than whoever is playing at his position. Having terrific 4th yr Juniors and 5th yr Srs in 2020 does not improve the status of our program in 2016 and 2017. We are auditioning for a P5 conference slot this year and next; helping w/ those conferences' decisions will be the networks who will look at us more favorably w/ more wins. We will sell more tickets next year with 3 wins instead of 2, 4 wins instead of 3, etc. Playing the foals early may not result in an extra win(s), but we don't want to look back at the end of the year and be what-iffing . All of chips need to be on the table.

Frankly, having observed freshmen football players for more years than most of you have lived, I believe that most have better acclimation experiences when they are engaged in the weekly preparation for games It is what they have done for their last several years and they don't suddenly have to readjust their life clocks. {I would even look at redshirting after the soph. year, letting the body prosper after 2 years of damage - assuming of course, there are equally talented players to take their places.}

Finally, the more games we win each year, the better the quality of the recruits, and what we miss in an upperclass redshirt will be superceded by the "better" players we will have recruited.

Craddock said they planned to use 7 guys to block 3, and still couldn't keep Hicks from getting smacked around. Bates might have to play.

In high school, Bates was a tackle. Is that where he is playing for us? He might have to play soon.
