The bottom line is that the bad behavior got Louisville into a P-5 conference. Regardless of the penalties, they are still in a P-5 conference. So when the dust is settled, it will still have been worth it for them.

So 'red handed guilty' is worse than just plain guilty? gottcha。 EVERY F'in school cheats and knows about it or deliberately sets it up to 'not know about it' and create the illusion of plausible deniability.gostangs wrote:We were guilty. Red handed guilty. The other dirty programs deserved more harsh penalties - for sure, but we did it, knew about it, and decided to keep doing it. Wish it didn't happen, wish we didn't make it worse, but no - we don't deserve sympathy.SoCal_Pony wrote:A penalty so severe the NCAA is loathe to use it again, yet gostangs thinks we are not worthy of any sympathy.....okmrydel wrote:I think the real curse was the dessert. Pitino knew about the ho's, and I bet he knew about this also. Don't waste any time giving this sleeze any sympathy.
I will agree SMU handled it terribly, but my analogy is criminal A murders someone and leaves their drivers license and gun with fingerprints at the scene of the crime while criminal B uses gloves and takes the weapon with them. One is stupid, one is smarter. BOTH are guilty.
And I would hold off on singling out Pitino as a 'sleeze' until all the facts come out, if they ever do. You really think Pitino is the only HC to use sex to induce a HS boys?

True. I'm sure they'd do it again.MV pony wrote:The bottom line is that the bad behavior got Louisville into a P-5 conference. Regardless of the penalties, they are still in a P-5 conference. So when the dust is settled, it will still have been worth it for them.

Hey SoCal and Mydel. Don't make this another referendum on SMU from 35 years ago. This is way bigger since the federal government is involved. Let's just focus on how bad Louisville and Pittino and others are gonna go down.

Too much money involved from partners such as ESPN that would be hurt by a death penalty for it to happen. A big nothing burger will happen, standard business practice, or college athletics will be so greatly changed we don't even know what it will look like. I think the former is where I'd put my money.

Re: Pitino Fired?
I sure hope SMU is clean in all of this but a single incident/violation is going to give the NCAA one of the scapegoats they want...and you know they are still hoping to tag LB. SMU just wasn't supposed to rise up as quickly as our program did. I just want to hear more Baylor connections in all of this

Heard the Central Arkansas coach today who I believe used to be an asst. at Arizona. He said he thinks 20-30 P5 schools will be affected and some mid majors should be able to move up some in the ranking. Specifically mentioned Wichita State as one that could rise more. Said he did not count Gonzaga as a mid since they had been high so long.
