Yep, wish we could go back to Tate Wallis. Hicks is obviously terrible.

Single season TDs

1. Kyle Padron 31 (2010)
2. Justin Willis 26 (2006)
3. Justin Willis 25 (2007)
4. Bo Levi Mitchell 24 (2008)
5. Chuck Hixson 21 (1968)
Garrett Gilbert 21 (2013)
7. Mike Romo 19 (1990)
8. Ben Hicks 19 (2016)
9. Mike Ford 17 (1978)
J. J. McDermott 17 (2011)

Really? And who were those last 12 games against? What would Mike Romo have done against those defenses? Garrett Gilbert? Chuck Hixon? Mike Ford?

Hicks is by far the best option, but let's not compare the old SWC to the American Conference right now.

relax-its just math and statistics -I said his 12 games would RANK as the 2nd best of All-Time-I never said he was the 2nd best QB in SMU History. Only a handful of SMU players in the last 30 years rank as one of the Top 100 SMU players of all time.

Not sure why people cannot accept the simple fact that SMU deserves to have a better QB than Hicks. Too many here are acting like Hicks is the reason that SMU is 4-1. What a joke. Even Chad Morris recognizes that Hicks is far from learning his position. See the press conference after the UCONN Game. Many who act like my posts last season calling for a new QB are ignoring the fact at just how bad Hicks was last year. I am pretty sure that we all were wanting a different QB last season. More than anything else recognize that most of us are SMU Alums and we all want good things for our program. It is ok to have higher expectations for our program. We are all Pony Fans!

mrydel I never said that I hate Hicks. I have only said that I think Hicks is a terrible QB. Out of respect for everyone on this board please do not try to put words in my mouth or make things up just to make yourself feel good. If my memory serves me correctly you had a lot of good things to say about Rafe Peavy over the Summer, or maybe it as during the Spring. Wish that what you had said proved to be true. It is really hard to believe that Rafe Peavy cannot beat out Ben Hicks. How can anyone have trouble with a playbook after trying to learn the playbook for 2 years?

Stallion I respect your knowledge of SMU Football and SMU Recruiting, I really do... but most of us recognize that any of us can make statistics say whatever we want them to say. You handpicking which SMU Football Games over the past two seasons count towards Hicks stats is a bit of a stretch. It is hard for me to even begin to look at the stats that you share when you ignore the first 5 games that Hicks played (as if he never played those games). Comparing differernt SMU QBs to each other in different eras and different competition is not really helpful. I am not sure what that really proves.

blackout pony, I actually agree with your post. Thank you for sharing your opinion.

My apologies for putting words in your mouth. You did say ΓÇ£I have never liked Hicks.ΓÇ¥ I chose to interpret that as you hated him so again my apologies. But why don’t you wait until he starts to play bad before you ask everyone to turn on him? He just came off his best game of the year and you start your diatribe.

First off, I don’t hate Hicks, I just don’t think he’s the answer, and no I’m not saying Gillens is either. Honestly I think this falls on Morris for not recruiting better.

Really? Were you expecting him to land another Deshaun Watson to a 1 win team with a half full stadium that plays in a conference called the American?

Chad Morris has done an incredible job of having to sell snow to Eskimos. This is the "turn the corner year". He is going to be recruiting kids to a winning team that played in one of the 50 spare bowls. Enjoy the ride.

Not at all, but he's lost his last two QB's right before national signing day the past two years. That's a big whiff if you ask me.

Say Hicks keeps the job all year; it's more than likely that one of, if not both, of Gillens and Peavy would leave, which would leave us with Hicks and Austin Upshaw (who might not even be able to stay at QB long term). That's a scary 2016 level of depth again. So yes, that falls on Morris.

I think WIll Brown will be a stub, so we better hope we hold onto him.

Last year against #11 ranked Houston Hicks, as a freshman, threw for 3 TD's and no INT's, going 16-31, 228 yards, and a 145 passing rating.

If the kid does that well again this year and we start out 5-1 I say we all shut up, accept that he's the starter, he deserves to be the starter, and that it's up to someone else to prove they're better.

Why wait? He IS the starter, He DESERVES to be the starter and it's up to someone else to prove they are better. That ain't changing. Gillens will most likely keep his series' but Hicks is the guy this year. We know his strengths and weakenesses. That ain't changing either. Deal with it.

Let's hope we can get a few more good (better) wins. A seven win season would be fantastic. Beating a team or two we are expected to lose...that's improvement.

I'm way more concerned about the other side of the ball.

5-1 won't get the Hicks haters to shut up.

I suppose its a sign of the times today; if someone on here doesn't like the way someone plays, he becomes a "Hater" in some's eyes. The old "Haters will hate" we have heard so much in the last few years. Can we stop with the accusations of ""hate" on here? ('cept'n maybe for UH!).
