Re: SMU Missing on Recruits
I do think at this point it is still a little unfair to be so [deleted] Jank.

Cause LB backs his kids and coaching tree, end of story. He/ll always back the kids who left blood and sweat on the floor for him. That doesn't mean he's boys wJank. Hell, he doesn't talk to Ulric anymore at all

Re: SMU Missing on Recruits
The guy that gets the job AFTER the probation always gets too much blame-margin of error is too tight especially with Semi, Shake and maybe Foster turning pro early which Brown didn't have to deal with though Brown had NBA caliber players. We do have some good players coming in with Isiah Mike, Feron Hunt and even Jaymar Young (a big that needs development just like 95% of bigs)--add a couple more and you've got something to build with

We do have a decent core but we've got to start the season 10 deep to account for the "s#!t happens" stuff. WE need at least two more contributors. We especially need a pass first point guard who can get the ball to #MikeHunt (and hopefully Jarrey)above the rim.

We need a point man that can ball #ChagMikeHunt all day and night.

I would have loved an elite PG, but Whitt and Blunt can help by committee. Most important thing we can do is get a best available contributor. Also, figure out a way to groom Farquhar. He's a coup , if we can just groom him for a year, let him heal from ACL fully.

I'm sorry to be so out of it Hoop, but who is Blunt and who is Farquhar? Can you give us a little
info on them? Thanks.

McBlunt is HoopΓÇÖs nickname for McMurray. Farquhar is just another recruit who will end up elsewhere.

Mcmurray is McBlunt b/c he was suspended at USF after failing 3 weed tests lol.
Farquhar has been my favorite PG option this whole time. 6'3 Canadian, top 10 kid up there, in a blockbuster Canadian class. Just coming back from acl last Spring. Had a ton of offers before injury, most commitable ones went away after injury. The whole Valley and schools like Western Kentucky want him badly, but we're not just in the drivers seat, he's here if we offer. Duncs was there when he tore his knee up and knew if he kept recruiting kid, we'd be in drivers seat. We are, by quite a bit.
Now, he's not plug and play right now. He needs a year of seasoning but he's an ultra athletic PG, sorta looks Mudiay-ish. He's also a facilitator. His jumper isnt the money, but came a long way while injured. His form is very good, shoots at top of jump. This is no Landrum/Whitt scenario where both of those forms are broken.
At end of day, he's a 4 or 5 year option for SMU w/a super high ceiling. It doesn't move Whitt off the ball next year, IMO, but he's a kid I'd definitely take and possibly red shirt.
Also, many of you need to lighten up on your so-called misses. The only miss this cycle is was Torres, cause he went to a rival AAC program. The rest went P5, where we're going to win a few but lose far more. Lastly, according to everyone whose been watching him at Crum, Hunt if he gains weight, is like a 2 yr kid. Mike is an NBA talent too. Need a few trail wins, but the sky is far from falling.
Lastly, Farquhar being a facilitator, has made him one one of the elite Canadian players favorite PGs. Between him and Mike that's potentially pied piper stuff. I personally think Canada's top 5 in '18 ' gives the US a run for their money, if not beat them, so don't get all weird about us going north

Re: SMU Missing on Recruits
Hoop, next year if Foster is back, let's say he plays a 3 with Memphis Doug coming off the bench behind him. So, we have Whitt and McBlunt as PG and SG. Nobody behind them. Don't we need someone who is ready to play now? Any shot that Shake comes back?
Re: SMU Missing on Recruits
No chance Shake comes back. Foster looks to be back. The goal was to grab a seasoned PG, even if just above average (Justin Coleman), so that we could move Whitt to bench as a 1-3 utility kid. Instead, we look like this...
Whitt
Blunt
Foster
Mike
Frenchie
Hunt
MemphisDoug
Ray
Young
That's a pretty legit 8 plus Young, if you get what they expect to get out of MemphisDoug and Ray.They think Hunt, Foster and Mike are NBA kids. The cupboard isn't remotely bare, especially compared to returning kids league wide. MIke could play 3 as well, if we need Jarrey's defense at 4.
@MikeHunt are a whole different breed of athlete at 6'8. Ray a bulky 6'7, Chargois 6'8 and Young 6'9. That waaaay more size and atletcism than we've had in a minute
Yes, we could use someone who can go right now, but we're in on a potentially sneaky post grad that really changes our depth equation. Not a PG though, I'd think you could start Whitt at PG, then use Blunt as backup. Slide over when MemphisDoug comes in. They def need another guard before big. Dilemma gets to be, the highest ceiling of any PG we've chased this offseason is a high school kid, who isnt really ready next year, unless forced to play. Maybe he's serviceable as a back-up, but I was actually hoping for a redshirt

Re: SMU Missing on Recruits
There is always the option-especially If they get Foster back-- to hold a scholarship for a big time transfer-who might have to sit a year. We know those 8 guys above can compete at this level and then you got a development kid in Young. Use the other one on a guard. Probably not ideal but that doesn't mean its not best for the long term health of the program. There is more than 1 way to build a roster. If we don't like the options left in 2018 look at other options to solidify for 2019
