SMU should never ever ever ever ever lose to North Texas at this point.

Ponies 54-32.

Texas State Teacher College returns 8-9 starters on offense. That concerns me. But Sonny sticks to the ground game to keep the ball out of the TSTC offense and eat up the clock. For you young ones thatΓÇÖs what use to be known as Ball Controlled Offense.[GRINNING FACE WITH SMILING EYES]
SMU in the upset 38-31

To a man, all we have heard this year is that practices have been a lot more physical and with regard to the UNT game, how important it is going to be to come out and match their intensity from the opening kickoff. Sure hope we don't fall behind quickly on their turf. I want to see us run the ball down their throats on our opening drive, mixing in just enough throws to keep UNT off balance.

I just watched some video highlights on Youtube of our two new WR transfers CJ Sanders and Reggie Roberson. They look like outstanding additions, and should make special teams far more interesting.

All of the players are excited about the Reggie Roberson kid, so watch for him. All I have talked to says heΓÇÖs as good as we had last year. I sure hope so!!!

I had a discussion Thursday with people at work about how the AAC is getting closer to the P5 than the general public realizes, based on past results. That argument played out again on Thursday, when Tulane ΓÇô a mediocre AAC team who havenΓÇÖt been to a bowl in a long, long time ΓÇô played Wake Forest ΓÇô a middle of the pack ACC team who went to a bowl the last two seasons ΓÇô and took them to overtime.

What we didnΓÇÖt talk about as much is the growing disparity between the AAC and the other G5 conferences. For example, last year, the two best CUSA teams were UNT and FAU (Kiffen). SMU, a middle of the pack AAC team, throttled UNT at home by 22. FAU played Navy, an upper-middle team in the AAC, in Florida and was destroyed by 23 points. There is a huge gap between the middle of the pack in the AAC and the top teams in CUSA.

So, you look at this weekΓÇÖs games. Houston, who will be a upper tier team AAC team this season, throttled rice by 35 last year. Rice isnΓÇÖt better than what they were, and Houston should be more explosive offensively than they were last season. I think Houston will easily handle the point spread they have been allotted.

SMU should again be middle of the pack in the AAC. And yes, they lost 3 guys to the NFL. But the bookies think they will go from beating UNT by 22 to losing by 4? Makes no sense. They donΓÇÖt recognize the disparity between the two leagues. Unless you believe that SMU is going to finish at the bottom of the AAC (in the face of MorrisΓÇÖ recruiting, Dykes recruiting and transfers, and the quality of our coaching staff), taking SMU straight up to win over UNT is almost a no-brainer.

SMU wins this game by 10-14 points. SMU 34, UNT 24.

I agree. On the field it is much more of a P6 and G4.
