We had drawn 26,691 for the opener vs UTEP that year and 20,083 for Northwestern State and I think JJ thought we would pack Ford but expressed his disappointment when "only" 22,932 showed up to watch SMU whip UCF 38-17 (the ONLY time we have ever beaten UCF).

I think this is yet another major difference between JJ and Sonny because I think if we could draw 22,932 for Tulsa, Sonny would be pleased to see fan support momentum building.

During that 2011 season, when JJ's team went 8-5 with a win against Pitt in the Compass Bowl in Birmingham, we went on to draw 20,106 vs Tulane, 21,080 vs Navy and 14,472 vs Rice. The home attendance average that year was 20,894.

We are who we are and as Sonny has said, it's a long process to boost attendance. With weather expected to be clear and 90/69, we can expect some bandwagon alumni/students but I'd be pleasantly surprised if we can even reach that 22,932 figure. Tulsa, after all, is the smallest school in our conference so it's up to SMU fans to fill Ford next Saturday.

I know we announce those numbers, but whenever I’m at a game and I do the math in my head, it usually looks like about 1/3 of the actual seats (if that) are full. Even on the west side, maybe 1 in 3 seats is actually taken. So in a 32k stadium, I never count more than about 12k.

Just don't do silly stuff like $83 promotions. You wont get anyone that way.

The 83 promotion is incredibly stupid. Immediately ignored and went to stubhub for half

My fear is they can’t get us all thru security in a timely manner. We are so used to showing up 2 minutes before kickoff and walking right thru security. Students and Pony Fans all need to be seated 15-20 minutes prior to kickoff or security gates will be a cluster!

And whose fault would that be? I agree with you. I have heard complaints for years, even with low attendance that security was too slow and people missed the start. I have never missed a kickoff when I attend games.

Haven’t had a problem all year. Seems to be moving much faster than last year.

High of 93 on Saturday. 6:30 start means shade for the East side shortly after kickoff. There is definitely a buzz in the office today. Bandwagon-ers are more than welcome!

curious how ticket sales are going. Isn't it family wknd? Seems to be a pretty decent amount on Ticketmaster. They need a $5-10 promotion and get as many people in there as possible

Called in to pick up 2 more this morning. Office said they had a ton of call backs to get to for tickets. sounds promising.

Would be pleasantly shocked if Ford was anywhere near full Saturday. Something in the 20k range would be a good turnout for Tulsa. We don't have any visitors that are going to bring more than a couple hundred fans with them so it's all up to the SMU bandwagoners to boost attendance

people who complain about security lines should get their butt in the stadium on time. Its the last second crowd who always thinks it should be flawless even though they waited until 2 min to kick off to get there.
