Strong finish to win a game we all thought they would win easily. SMU's 17 offensive boards (4 by Bandoumel who had a career high21 points) and 11 steals (5 by Phelps) was the difference as the guys FINALLY turned up the intensity that last 6 minutes. Not going to win a lot of games when you shoot just 36% on your home floor

Nice to see them comeback to win instead of losing a lead.

I was about to write this one off when they got down 10 midway through the 2nd half

Last time I checked, I was not on the roster so while "they" are my guys, I don't qualify as one of them so I try not to use "we" and "us" when referring to the players, although I admit I slip up at times

That's the way I feel but have tried to be more respectful ever since one of our players called out fans for referring to the the team as "we" and "us", complaining that after dogging the players after losses, those same fans were quick to refer to the team as "we" and "us". Can't recall who it was but it made perfect sense, especially considering how often they get bashed on this site. That may have gone back to the days of the Mustang Maniacs board, if that's what it was called in the early days coming back from the death penalty.

KD's body language has really stunk this season. He has no passion or urgency and looks like he is just going through the motions. I see no fire or leadership from him, not sure what the deal is. He is always going to get his points, but he needs to step up and lead by example. Band and Phelps, on the other hand, got everyone fired up for the comeback during crunch time.

I thought Phelps played the best game of his young career yesterday, and it wasn't even close. He was EVERYWHERE on the defensive end.

5 steals was great. Watching him reminded me of some of the Cinci players always going for a defensive touch.

He needs to work on his shot. He missed everything (rim, backboard, net) twice if I recall. One was a 3 but another was a short shot.

You're right. He didn't shoot well. I think he missed a dunk, too, although that might have been scratched from the stat sheet because of a foul.
Shooting, I think, will come along. But there are a lot of freshmen who just don't play defense. They were the best player on their HS and AAU teams, and never really needed to defend because they could score a lot.
Who was the last SMU freshman who demanded immediate notice for his defense?

Sorry if my statement came off as a criticism. Certainly was not intended that way. Impressed with his defense and looking forward to him leading the team next year.
