Also, Houston had nothing to play for. Wouldn't be surprising if the entire pre-game pep talk consisted of "don't get hurt."
Houston has Memphis right where they want them "just in case" they meet again in AAC Finals. Really tough to beat a team 3 times in the same season assuming they are evenly matched talent wise
Good to see Loyola-Chicago win the MVC title. Those guys are 26-7 with wins vs Arizona State, DePaul, Vanderbilt & San Francisco and close losses to Michigan State & Auburn. Their NET is # 25 and they could have taken an at-large bid, especially with their Cinderella reputation in recent years. Need that trend to continue
My deepest concern was for Memphis to beat up Houston on national TV and that's exactly what occured.
Already saw a story on my feed talking about Memphis is just playing for seeding now in the conference tourney.
If someone hasn't read our really good DMN beat writer's interview with Joe Lunardi a few days ago please do so.
Basically, SMU swept Memphis and split with Houston. Memphis beat Houston BUT the committee simply found Memphis ooc wins more impressive. Lunardi emphasized that head to head are not a big deal to the committee.
So memphis was ahead of us before they beat Houston. Now, we beat Memphis a 3rd time in semis but lose in the finals we're toast. Memphis gets in still, which sucks.
Fortunately, we can beat both Memphis and Houston so we really need to keep our chins up.
Memphis is in regardless, even if they lose in the first round. Memphis beating Houston bad was actually quite good for us on our computer rankings.
In fact, the Memphis win, coupled with our win, Lunardi just moved us back in the field as the last team in.
Now would be the right time for Memphis to lay an egg and lose in the first round. We just need to make the conference final and we are comfortably in. Beating Memphis should not be needed. We just need the easiest path to the final.
Right now I'm more concerned about beating the winner of Tulsa and WSU. We need to beat them and then we can think about the next game. One game at a time from here on out.

Survive and advance time. One point wins will suffice.
