If we are purgatoried (yes I made that word up) to remain where we are I believe our new rival and most worthy rival will be UTSA.
I agree.mrydel wrote:If we are purgatoried (yes I made that word up) to remain where we are I believe our new rival and most worthy rival will be UTSA.
Well, yes, ΓÇ£recentΓÇ¥ changes things and SMU may never play, much less beat, Texas again. But there’s no full history of SMU football that does not include the six-game win streak over UT that started with the ΓÇÿ35 national championship team, Doak’s wins over them, Levias’ win in that great 1966 season, and the incredible intensity of every matchup from 1980-84, broken not by SMU falling off but by Texas surrendering the biggest SMU win in the series in 1985, 44-14.Charleston Pony wrote:I was the one who brought up "recent" series because although I loved the occasional wins vs UT, I would hardly call that among our "greatest" series. They were usually humiliating for our team and unfortunately our "recent" series with our former SWC mates have been much the same. I will always consider the TCU rivalry our greatest series but going forward, if the SMU program can't continue to improve, I'm afraid that honor may soon belong to RiceDukie wrote: And the notion of limiting this concept to ΓÇ£recentΓÇ¥ came up after I told you you were wrong, so here are some all-time series that are way better and more important:
* TCU
* Baylor
* Texas (the losses make the wins sweeter)
* A&M
* Rice
* Houston
For wilderness-era (after 1995) opponents, even UTEP and UNT brought more people and often had more spirit.
Let's hope the ugly unis make Tulsa play ugly todayHoss wrote:Ugly Tulsa unis
