the NCAA isn't going to let SMU be a 3 or 4 seed with our schedule-have we ever been seeded where we thought we deserved or where our ranking indicated-No its always a shock that we regarded so poorly. Get yourself prepared because we don't have the wins to be seeded high

Frankly, I'd be happy with a 6.

We should be a 4 but we won't be because there is no AAC representation on the comittee. You can make a case that there are somewhere between 12-15 teams better then us but it get's patently absurd to say there are 24 teams Better (if we were a 7) or even 20 (if we were a 6). All of our losses were early on the road or neutral to NCAA tournament teams.

Committee representation isn't the issue, but rather a lack of top wins. SMU will have one (or two) wins vs. Cincinnati and that's it. How do you think that compares against the other top 4 seeds?
Take a #5 seed and run with it.

Not having a big OOC win is definitely a reason, but a lack of an AAC rep on the committee is a huge issue.

We have no bad losses. Every team ahead of us will have a bad loss (which I think is fairly defined as losing at home to a team worse then you). What is more impressive, taking care of business against everyone you beat and only losing on neutral court or on the road to tournament teams or close to it (all early in the year), or beating some good teams but losing at home to some mediocre teams as well? name 16 teams that are better then SMU? Baylor lost to KSU at home and to Texas Tech. WVA lost to Temple and Oklahoma. Duke has lost to a bunch of unranked teams (4 by my count including a 15-15 NCST team at home). FSU lost to temple Pitt Syracuse and GT. Having a committee member could say hay your not giving SMU their due because you are focusing on x and you really also need to consider y. and all of their loses were early in the year when they were still figuring things out, Now SMU is definetly one of the hottest teams in the country.

Our weak conference is hurting us along with no big OOC wins. I have to agree with the tweeter who questioned what our record would be in the ACC. I would guess not as good but still good enough to be in the tourney.

You're right, mrydel. That is the biggest drawback to playing in what is considered a weaker conference. The zags and Wichita St have been dealing with this for years. Have to try and schedule a tough OOC and hope those opponents have strong seasons. BTW, I saw one AP voter mention that Wichita St at 24-4 might not make the tourney if they don't win their conference tourney because they don't have a respectable OOC win.

I heard one of the ESPN CBB analyst arguing that a few years ago. If you can't finish above .500 in your conference, you have no business playing in a tourney for the national championship. I agree.,

I heard the Wichita State statement about needing to win their tourney. They sound like they are being set up like what happened to us a few years ago. If they do not win, I hope they keep the camera crews away.

I would agree with finishing .500 but not having to finish above .500 and this year's ACC is a good example of why I feel that way. There are some teams that are elite and are going to win on YOUR home court, so that can make finishing above .500 pretty tough in a really strong league where you don't get everyone home/home
