Whoever said it earlier was right... That SMU comercial has to go.

Ironically, no team has punted 3 times against our defense this year, if I recall correctly, and I think it could happen today since Navy will be playing a little more conservative than usual with this lead. The only question is can we stop them as they play conservatively.

I don't know how many more times I can hear an SMU commercial say that we are standing on the "cusp of greatness."
That's this entire university's problem: We are content to stand on the cusp of greatness. We need to stop standing there and be great in every aspect.

Yeah, Tom Mason, that's some quality work you're doing there.
For the 100th time, it is the personnel, not the scheme. Did you notice that Bennett was able to stop Navy at Pittsburg?

Mrydel - Personnel is part of the problem...a BIG part. But when the coach doesn't adjust the scheme until after the game is out of hand, that's on the DC. That's what we saw against Rice and Tulane. You can blame the other games on personnel.
Against Tulsa and Texas Tech I've got no complaints about the defense at all. We did good jobs in those games.

Mitchell could run for ever if he decided to.....they have three up front every play. why don't we run a few times to keep them honest???

Without personnel, a DC is limited in the adjustments he can make. Basic defenses are run by basic athletes. Complex and flexible schemes require athletes that can execute those schemes. It isn't like this is the first game we haven't been able to tackle. As Stallion pointed out, our pass defense has been stellar today. So no need to adjust the [deleted] D. And we haven't stopped a run with any defensive scheme thus far this year.

There are not that many schemes to adjust to with the triple option. You just need to execute. It takes superior play from the linebackers and DEs and strong support from the CBs. We do not have enough talent to handle it. I have played against this offense. It is not easy and you need quality athletes. That is why it is not played in the pros. They have 11 great players on the defnese that can shut it down. Not many college teams especially at our level have the talent necessary.
Of course it is always easier to just blame the coach.
