Bracketology: Arkansas drops out, Mizzou back in
March 13, 2014 7:13 pm ET
There has been some movement at the bottom of the bracket, which is not yet reflected on the bracketology page, but I will share the results here.
Arkansas is now the first team out after losing to South Carolina. They are replaced in the bracket by Missouri, who needed double overtime to beat Texas A&M.
Also, SMU has dropped down to the first four after the Mustangs' loss to Houston in the American conference tournament.
So, the new last four in are SMU , Providence, Tennessee and Missouri .
The first four out are Arkansas, Minnesota, Cal and BYU. Cal lost to Colorado in the Pac-12 tournament and and Minnesota beat Penn State in the Big Ten.

No such thing as a play in game anymore. This is now round 1.
It's still a play in game. A game that is not necessary for 90% of the teams.

But it is not referred to as a play in game anymore regardless of who it is not necessary for. And SMU will probably be in a round 2 game anyway.

I think the committee would LOVE the idea of a Kentucky/SMU match up in the second round.

Today's Lunardi Bracketology:
SMU drops one to No. 10, plays No. 7 Kentucky in Raleigh.

TV guys would love that - no matter the outcome - you have SMU/Kansas or Kentucky/Kansas in the next game. Possible back to back Brown vs Brown acolytes.

Shame we lost to Houston. Erased a lot of the teams hard work this season.

Point taken.
Kind of reminds me of how we don't fight wars anymore. They are "overseas contingency operations". 6 of one, half dozen of the other.
Hope we are in round 2!

Love this bracket!
great locations, and lots of top shelf programs. winner gets Duke, and then 2nd round winners feed to Memphis regionals with potential showdowns vs Texas and Louisville.
Now this would be a great way for SMU to cut it's teeth in NCAA's!

Most bracket predictors have us as either a play in game, or first 4 out

Well, looking at the bracketWag that LA_Mustang posted on page 24 of this thread, it looks like 8 of 103 brackets have SMU out of tourney, and 44 have SMU as a 11 or 12 seed… and the other half have us as anywhere between 7 to 10. And only half of those 11-12 seeds play in round 1(play in).
So at least by this fairly comprehensive list, I would say you are way overstating the bracket predictor pessimism on SMU.
Not that I would know if most or any of these guys know Jack Sh__t.
EDIT: Actually it was Harry's bracket matrix that I was referencing.

We were #25 and lost to a good Memphis team on the road and then lost a game we shouldn't have at a neutral site. I know RPi/bpi are what matters but don't see how that knocks us out of the field of 68

Right PonyKris, I think at worse we will be in the 1 round.

SMU should be punished severely by dropping us from a 10 seed to 11 seed and sending us straight to San Antonio. Bad SMU!!!
