No he's got South Carolina as a 7 seed (listed as "South Carolina")

USC, Duke and Gonzaga?

Damn.

I hope we play those type of teams in the tournament. To be the best, you need to beat the best. That is how respect is earned in the tournament.

I doubt this team will be worried about the competition with our upperclass leadership.

Back to back games vs. schools located in Cincinnati?

If we are playing the winner of a play-in game as a 5, can we assume that we are the "top" 5 seed? If so, I wonder if an AAC tourney win could push us to a 4 seed in his projections. Just thinking out loud.

Not that this team needs extra motivation, but it never hurts. I kind of think it would be to our benefit to get 6 or higher seed as that would be perceived as a snub by the NCAA. I am pretty comfortable putting our guys up against just about anyone in the first two rounds so being a 5 or a 6 would not change our path a whole lot. We are not going to do better than a 5 so the snub might help put that chip on our shoulder that gets us laser focused. I would love to get a shot at Duke and see Semi have a little extra to play for as well. Once you get to the second weekend all bets are off and we are going to pose some problems with whoever runs into us. Just got to get out of the first weekend...

Only worry I have is foul trouble. Probably can overcome a first round game with foul trouble, but after that a ref crew calling it tight could squash our chances.

Yep. Fortunately we're one of the top in the nation at avoiding foul trouble (mostly out of necessity), but a tightly or inconsistently called game can really be trouble for us. I thought this was happening @HOU a couple of weeks ago before the refs "turned it around" and started hammering Houston even worse. (Those officials were terrible...)

If we win the tourney, we will be 30-4 and I strongly suggest we will be a 4 seed. Our name has been in headlines for the last few weeks and we are no longer considered a dark horse in this race. We will have won 26 of last 27 games with a long winning streak going into the NCAA tourney. Have a little faith.

From the NCAA web site: http://www.ncaa.com/news/basketball-men ... op-ap-poll

"There were no drastic leaps in the newest poll, but a few squads in the teens had productive weeks. SMU has lost once in the last three months and change; the Mustangs are up to No. 12 in the rankings. No. 13 Purdue is up three spots after notching crucial wins over Indiana and Northwestern, and Cincinnati is ranked 15th following dominant performances against Houston and Connecticut.

The high-major conference tournaments get the bulk of the publicity, but the AAC is a league to keep an eye on this week. Specifically, watch the Bearcats and the Mustangs; the two powers are a combined 33-3 in conference play. Two of those losses came against each other, and few teams have more momentum heading into the NCAA tournament. If these two meet in the AAC tournament title game on Sunday, which seems likely, it will be must-see television. They defend, have outstanding guard play and can beat you in multiple ways. Don’t sleep on either."

Funny SMU quote read somewhere on internet:

"SMU Hasn't Lost Since the Obama Administration"

We'll still have only 2-4 wins over top 50 RPI squads, which is one critical metric that the Committee appears to be using this year. I think our ceiling is a 5 (and floor is a 6).

i'll be shocked if we are higher than a 6 seed knowing what the committee thinks of the AAC

I am starting to jump on the possible 4 seed band wagon if and only if we get Cincy in the championship and beat them. We are getting a lot of pub and are arguably the hottest team going onto this week. If only Sterlings 3 had fallen.... imagine that
