We had a woman golfer who came back from a serious injury. We have two Swedish seniors graduating from the Men's tennis team and playing their final matches this weekend. Those stories could have been written even on page 5 by a local paper. The Washington Post had two articles about Maryland lacrosse players (man and woman), and now a front page story about an accused Duke lacrosse player from the DC area. The DMN is trash!!!

I went to the SMU page on the DMN site today and found this message.

It is two weeks now. What will be the story that breaks the streak? Doherty's first recruit? Anyone have a guess. I am guessing we will have a short story in one of the weekend editions.

How about a front page headline:

McClown's Head Explodes Upon Announcement of New Basketball Practice Facility.

there seem to be two points here:

1) The point of the newspaper is to sell newspapers/advertising...

2) If SMU is not generating stories to accomplish point # 1, they will not be covered... not exactly fair, but I think it is darkly accurate from a business perspective. Jounalistic integity or local loyalty has little to do with it, IMHO.

Matt went to Bishop Lynch...therefore a local interest story. We tried to get him. Too bad he didn't come to SMU...he would not have spent his days riding the pine here.
