EastStang wrote:There is a new wrinkle that was pointed out in the DMN today. ECU could lose to NC State. If Marshall beats USM, then ECU is the east champion. If they lose to UH in the conference championship game, then they would be 6-7 and ineligible for a bowl despite being the Eastern Division champion. How funny is that. Of course Marshall would be bowl eligible at that point and be a great story for the NO Bowl with a movie tie-in. We just need to beat Rice not to worry about all of this.
Too many senerios for me

that was actually pointed out right here on ponyfans.com. Really is there anything these days published in the DMN that isn't first discussed on ponyfans?

Too true. We could work for the the DMN covering SMU.

Should we get to a bowl, one the best things for us is that we will have between 10-15 extra practices. Given our bowl choices are Dec. 22 and Dec. 23, it's unlikely that we can get the 15 in because of the finals schedule.
Nonetheless, when you get three sets of practices (August, Dec. and spring) it just adds to the development of your program.

If we have a choice we go to the bigger payday - and the better network. Orsini will give two flips - he is trying to fill a hole.

a bowl bid for SMU doesn't represent a big payday. Unless you are the CUSA champ and play in the Liberty, all our bowls are minimum payouts and after ticket guarantees (I sincerely doubt SMU fans will step up and cover the number of tickets required), the program will do well to break even and will likely lose money playing in a bowl.
Have to look at bowl participation as part of SMU's "commitment". If it takes guaranteeing 10,000 tickets, you have to buy your way into a bowl to get the extra practice time, exposure, etc...
Everyone knew when this schedule was made that THIS WAS SUPPOSED TO BE THE YEAR...if we don't beat Rice, a lot of potential momentum is lost and the serason will end as one more on a long list of woulda, coulda, shoulda...with UNT at the top of that list.

I did not say it would be a big payday - I said they would pick the biggest payday. Nothing else will enter into consideration for us.
