Does anyone here remember a SMU commercial for basketball where it compared Sasser's fro to the number of points he scored and would score in the upcoming season? I just saw it on someone's reel and I was cuirous if it was a real commercial or just a spec spot.

I've heard of it but never seen it.

Yeah, it is real. I remember it airing on TV. And of course halfway through that season, out came the cornrows.

Let's not forget why Sasser crashed the offensive boards: they were put-backs of his missed shots.

The guy could get hot once in a while, but he also struggled a lot as a shooter. (He needed contact lenses - he was always squinting at the scoreboard). Not as horrendous a shooter as Chad Elsey turned out to be, but Sasser was much more of a scorer than a shooter.

But at least he recognized he could slip underneath and use those long arms to tip in some rebounds. If I remember correctly, Sass was a pretty good foul shooter too.

Who ever thought we would look back at the Sasser/Davis era and sigh with longing.
