To be honest, I was hoping we would overachieve a bit, and keep it under 20.

Yes, it was disappointing and painful. We played fairly well. It's really hard to keep up with a team that was hitting on all cylinders and is as fast as Memphis is. We just don't have the personnel to make a run deep into the NCAA tourney like Memphis does. Maybe after a few years of recruiting, but the problem is we are not a basketball magnet. It's not a quick fix scenario, it's going to take a few years to get to that caliber. Tough loss, but they gave it all they could I'm sure. Let's just come back home and get ourselves a good position for the CUSA tourney.

I'm still pumped about Doherty. It's gonna be exciting to watch what he can bring. I was just hoping we could have kept it within 20.

Ain't No Sunshine When She's gone

Let's have Bill Withers sing our school's song. No doubt about when it comes to winning at SMU, "Ain't no sunshine when she's gone." And she's been gone too long.

There it is again......."it's going to take a few years"......what makes you think we could ever get to the caliber of a team like Memphis? It's been almost 20 years since we had a team that could win more than one game in the NCAA tournament........

So do you have a solution to offer, or do you just like to [deleted] and moan? If you don't have hope, why do you even bother coming on here? Can't think of an answer, other than wanting somewhere to [deleted] and moan...

Please share your magic way of getting top caliber recruits to come to a less than mediocre team. Other than paying recruits, which obviously isn't an option, we have to recruit and steadily improve. Getting good and staying good takes time. As much as you may hate that fact and moan and groan because getting the ability to winning takes time, that's what it takes--time.

Thank you very much for the kudos and recognition. While it is hard to get past the contributions of FordtoTolbert, it is nice to see some knowledgable bball fans giving us credit for our program finally being back to where it once was.

I sincerely hope to see the Mustangs giving us a run for our money in days to come.

Please find a better choice of words than "a run for our money".

the smu bball program needs time and patience...i feel the right man is in place to get the job done and soon the right facilities will be too. but these things dont happen over night. just take a look at the Mavericks! if you would have told me 10 years ago when the Mavs were the worst franchise in ALL of pro sports that in 2007 they would be coming off a NBA Finals appearance, have the best record in the NBA, and have a German that was the MVP favorite on their team i would NEVER, NEVER, NEVER have believed it. tough loss to memphis of course, but anything is possible...

it will take at least 4 to 5 years before we compete for a conference title
