The next coach will get Carte Blanche to bring whatever JUCO he wants or they won't take the job. There is a reason this is a coaching graveyard and Orsini won't let it happen again.

Mike Henderson might be a solid recruiter in the Dallas Area and working with Notre Dame might give him an outreach to other parts of the nation also. Paul Johnson with his option offense might be a tool to reach Cyrus Gray to be a part of the option. Gill would probably be a plus also. We all may be a long way off from what Orsini is thinking...would be curious to be able to pick his mind...He may have a winner in waiting!!! Go Mustangs!!!

Paul Johnson would be an absolutely disaster in this job. Cyrus Gray is not going to play in a wishbone much less at SMU, SMU fans aren't going to give a damn about a wishbone offense. Where are these Paul Johnson fans coming from. Geez he could not do at SMU what he has done at Navy. He's a flat personality. No Texas background. Just an awful choice for SMU. He is last on my list of potential candidates-and he possesses none of the qualities needed for the SMU job.

hate to break it to you but JUCO signing date is about December 5 and we'll be lucky to have a Coach by then. We've never gone after many JUCO kids that don't sign in the mid-year signing period. SMU's JUCO prospects are not bright this year.

It is obvious where these Paul Johnson fans are coming from. Paul Johnson has won every where he has coached. Gimicky offense or no, there are people desperate enough to win that they will consider it.

You are right, however, that nobody is going to give a damn about that offense. I just don't see Orisini, if he means what he says, embracing it.

Hate to differ with you here, but neither Orsini nor Turner have that kind of gravitas to change admissions or push through degree program changes to overtly favor athletics. Enough of the Board feels strongly that the model isn't a problem that those of the Board who do feel strongly that the model is a problem aren't going to win a straight up/down vote.

Turner has been here twice as long as Pye, and since according to most Pye was as evil as the DP (he wasn't, but his actions didn't help), and since Turner arguably has presided over worse football than Pye (i.e. he hired Copeland and according to Stallion has presided over weaker teams than the early 90s), that means that Turner either a) CAN'T move things faster than a snail on a saltlick or b) WON'T move things any faster.

So, as prodigious a fund-raiser as Turner is, does that overcome his foibles with football? I say yes. And Orsini's hire gives him new life, at least for the foreseeable future.

Sorry I sound so cheery. I hope you are right.

Exploring possibilities is all I was doing...Paul Johnson has a varied coaching background with many offenses and defenses. Not suggesting that he be the one. But the man can flat out coach. And we haven't seen much of that around here. Far bigger programs than ours, near here are considering a move to get him. I like Gill also. I never said Johnson should be the one. I imagine Orsini's mind is already in motion probably a different direction than any of us know or think. I will be at the game Saturday as I always am....Go Mustangs!!!

I think most people on this Board agree that the model is the problem at least to some extent. 8)

Just kidding. I knew what you meant. :D

when Bear Bryant carried Gene Stallings off the field after A&M's Cotton Bowl victory over Alabama in 1967-Stallings was the youngest Coach in America at 37 I believe. That would put Stallings at about 77 today.
