Ok Stall, I'll play along. Let's say, each of us has decided we want SMU to play Division 1A football! Now what? Do you lead us in a storming of Perkins? What is it, that you are going to lead us in?

Even if it was true, was that very smart of PB to bust on Anthony "Quick Six" Alridge days before you travel to Houston for a nationally televised game? At least wait until after the game.

According to Rivals, Ell Ash had a 970 SAT and a 3.3 GPA in high school. While he initially enrolled at UT, he was certainly qualified out of high school.

SMU definitely needs to make transferring easier. Just look at Cal's entrance profile. They used to have a football team average SAT in the 700s. If they can do it, surely SMU can.

And, yeah, Ganaway briefly committed to Rice, then visited Tulsa and then switched to UH. Therefore, I'm confident he was admissable to SMU, or should have been.

Stallion, shut the hell up! I live in Denton, Tx and watched JWills Denton Ryan Raiders beat the hell out of Aldridge and Denton High for years. There is no way this kid could have gotten into SMU if he would take any test 1000 times. Where the hell are you people getting this [deleted] info? Do you want me to fax you his report cards for all of HS years? He is a great athlete, but he could not get into our institution of higher learning because he is a football player going to school, not a student playing football. Please get your facts straight and stop trying to [deleted] people on stuff you know nothing about. I will give you his phone number and you can call and ask Aldridge?

I thought SMU loosened up its standards 2-3 years ago. A few years ago, I remember seeing SMU's average football team SATs in the mid-to-high 900s and in the company of Vandy and Rice. Stanford consistently has the highest entrance requirements and yet beat USC on the road.

Been out of town and just reading some posts and all I want to say is I told you this was coming. I posted last week what PB and Orisini's quotes were at the coaches stop about getting whoever they wanted, and now this.

Again, we have problems in all areas. Certainly the "model" as some have called it is part of the problems, but also we must acknowlege we need better coaching, better attention to details in recruiting (at least contacting players, making sure the letters we do send have names spelled right, etc.), better details to contacting former players to get them involved, etc.

Nice to have some of these other kids, but we don't. Still doesn't explain why we can't even contact Marcus Wright especially after his 7 TD playoff peformance last year and he is one of the fastest players in the state, especially when other conf-USA schools do and Tulsa wraps him up. And yes he would get in SMU just fine as he is an honors student and has tested just fine.

Sorry but SMU can recruit from a deep pool of players. Maybe not as deep as a UCF but certainly deep enough to win in CUSA.
Remember - we are the only team not to go to a bowl in CUSA.
That means our coaches are not good evaluators of talent and can not coach up the talent in place.

I give you Coach Graham at Rice as Exhibit A of how to coach up talent and win in a weak league. He took talent recruited for the option and won with in in a spread offense.

SMU is a good (not great) coach away from consistent winning and the occasional CUSA championship.

Lets face it Cavan and Bennett were a disaster.

This argument is going nowhere. The bottom line is that the university needs to be direct with its alums and fan base exactly when these supposed changes are going to be implemented and not give ballpark timeframes.

Detailed information to the masses is the key. The sooner they get this out, the better it gives the new coach and his staff a chance to sell this across the state of Texas or wherever they choose to recruit. The timeframe for future recruits may not be what we all desire, but we're going to have to start somewhere.

Or else we're running on a treadmill. But the key is to make better evaluations on players. Bennett's biggest fault in recruiting is that he took too many reaches on the offensive and defensive lines. Most went bust.
