What about talking to Will Muschamp? He needs to cut his teeth somewhere and he is supposedly a great recruiter.
What about Jim Donnan? He had great success as the OU OC in the 80's, basically got Marshall back into the national spotlight, and did a good job at UGA. Although, he has a sweet deal as an analyst and radio guy...
I hope SO and GT are thinking of every possibility... I am ready for SMU football to get back!

Lighten up, Sparky. A lot of "sources" are SMU folks, who as we all know are making this search the world's best-kept secret. It's human nature to talk a little more freely if you don't know you should be worried about the person listening, right? So if someone knows something and tells someone "trustworthy," that person might then tell a Tom Deinhart, etc. But if that person gets a call that starts with "this is the Dallas Morning News calling..." they might well clam up. Not saying that's what happened, just speculating. My sense is that Kate is all over campus or at least talking to a lot of folks, and that people have been ordered from on high to shut the hell up.OC Mustang wrote:Where the blue bloody f--king blazes is Kate? Where the hell is the story? You'd think she would do her f--king job. That way, maybe, just maybe, ponyfans members wouldn't have to do it for her.
What a joke. Kate, if you read this, you have a job to do. Damn you, do it! ...instead of waiting until The Sporting News and God knows who else is on the to search besides you.
I disagree. I'm right there with you on how hard it would be to leave the Hawaiian lifestyle, but if we were to double his salary, he probably would consider it. But I disagree with the idea that he's a retread. All that NFL experience, that 12-0 record this year with a limited recruiting pool, that Sugar Bowl invite, that Heisman finalist QB, that prolific offense he's always had .... to me those things make him a VERY appealing candidate, if he's interested.BRStang wrote:To me, Jones is a retread if there ever was one. How long and how many jobs has it taken him to get to the stage he is at now?
Fortunately, I can't see him leaving a beautiful, easy-going place where people wear shorts and leis everyday to go to a place like HP.

SMU football has some issues in general that would need to be addressed somehow with every recruit. A big name coach, regardless of their past, would help with recruiting far more than their past would hurt it, in my opinion.
All they need to do is hold a press conference talking about redemption for the coach and the football program, and then don't screw up. Problem solved.
