But wasn't that a volunteer band and not the official sanctioned Mustang Band? Prior to Tulane, the "official" record for "The" Mustang Band was 690 at the Texas/SMU basketball playoff game circa 1972 in Waco.
The band started playing Peruna after half time and did not stop until the Mustangs lost in triple overtime.

Guess it depends on your interpretation of "playing." The saxes and softer instruments can keep the the song going without interruption during the plays, and it cranks back up with everyone after the start of the play.couch 'em wrote:Not doable. You aren't allowed to disrupt the snap of the ball, which people interperate to mean you can't play during the snap of the ball.SmooBoy wrote:From what I've been told, the record was set by the band playing the entire game double time Peruna, getting louder during big plays and scores. With JJ's penchant for long games, this is doable.MrMustang1965 wrote:I misunderstood the question. I thought SmooBoy was asking how many times we wanted the band to play 'Peruna' to set a record.
not doable, evidence indicates that the current leadership would not allow itSmooBoy wrote:Guess it depends on your interpretation of "playing." I agree, in fact I say playing full volume except when the team is right in front of you would be ok. You'll be warned before you are flagged I'm sure. Why not push it? Unfortunately I don't make those decisions.SmooBoy wrote:Guess it depends on your interpretation of "playing." "Hawaii Five-O" is NOT the Hawaii fight song. This is:MustangStealth wrote:Before you guys get too far into the show... if Hawaii 5-0 is really on the list, please someone explain to the director that it is Hawaii's fight song and we should not be playing it to welcome June Jones here.PonyTime wrote:Let me guess - Hawaii 5-0 . . .smu diamond m wrote:First show is a tribute to June.

I've actually been told by someone that the leadership asked JJ if they could do it and he said no. Not sure how valid that statement really is(and was told to me by a poster on this very board) but there appears to have been some effort made by the current leadership to see if they could "stretch the limits."abezontar wrote: not doable, evidence indicates that the current leadership would not allow it

I am sorry to hear that your band doesn't play Peruna the whole time you guys have the ball anymore. I always thought that was one of the great traditions in college football hearing the band go really really soft while the team was in the huddle and coming to the line and the second the ball was snapped it cranked up.

That depends on what your definition of "concept" is.....Peruna_Ate_My_Rolex wrote:Don't get too excited. They've started to move away from that concept. They might briefly hit it in the opener but it's not like it used to be.lwjr wrote:I look forward to hearing the jazz tunes of the Mustang Band. They are the only halftime show I would sit and listen to.
