WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE??????
THE SMU MENS BBALL PROGRAM HAS NEVER HAD ANY STANDARDS!!!!!!!!
AND NO, MAKING THE TOURNY IS NOTHING TO BE PROUD OF!!!!!
Doh gives us a legit chance to build a program and make something special, its takes time because we have no legacy to draw from and have never been good by any standard.
whine about the football program some more, at least Doh can do somethign with nothin and has good recruits to show for it.
these expectations are ridiculous and unfounded

Right - he can do something with nothing......his first season here he says he has a couple guys on the team who could play at NC right now (IKE & Rack); then he last season he supposedly has a top 25 class.....again...just hype....

He said that about Ike only. Rack was never metioned as being a guy who could play for UNC. I think Ike proved he had skills we were not aware of.
By the way, it is every coach's job to create interest and hype. When you are not winning you have to do something to bring in fans and recruits.

Agreed.
Just remember, it is the begining of year three with way too many underclassmen. I will give my verdict at the end of year four. His big class would be juniors and his most talented class (2008) would be finishing their sophmore years.
"The Doherty Era is a Failure" threads are premature, uneducated, irresponsible, kneejerk and unfair. Trust me, I'm just as frustrated with what I witnessed in person Monday night, but it was one game. Now if we play like this for the rest of the year, the coach and the team are fair game.
Just another "tap the brakes" post for your enjoyment.

My post wasn't knee-jerk or a cue to the 'fire doh' crowd. Just wanted some hoops discussion about the SMU program 2.5 years into the Doh era.
I disagree about those on this thread suggesting that Doh is a great recruiter. In fact, I'd say he is a subpar recruiter. He has signed 13 players at SMU and it looks like maybe four of them can play and be decent at this level.
The approach he took to building the program was ackward as well. Why, when you have seven scholarships available, do you sign seven HSers? Especially when you need some immediate help.
It has already been discussed that he has made mistakes in assembling his staff with no Dallas area AAU connections.
The in-game coaching isn't very good.
Bottom line, there is no reason that SMU should lose to the likes of UAPB, Alabama State, USC Update and all the other fly-by-night DI basketball programs that Doh has lost to in his first three seasons.
The interested generated in the DFW community by Doh's hiring has long since been lost with the defeats to these schools. I'd say interest in the program might be the lowest that its ever been.
There is a reason why schools like the above-mentioned have been scheduled by Doh and if he can't beat them, then the program is in really, really, really sad shape.
The guy has achieved average results - at best - in his career at his three previous stops and gives me no inidcation that he will get SMU to the NCAAs.

I would completely disagree with the premature, uneducated and irresponsible remark. Help me understand the difference to what happened in Fort Worth to what happened against UAPB?
They will lose badly in College Station and Evanston. The non-conference record is probably going to be around .500 -- and that should not be the case.
This program is what it is. Guards are pretty solid. Post game is a mess. And they're not mentally tough enough.
The chemistry is poor. Something isn't clicking. The genie is out of the bottle and it ain't comin' back.
