as in NO stars...good riddance.
I wanted him. Gary Patterson thought he would make a good
defensive end. That's good enough for me.
Considering Patterson's past expertise, Murphy at 6'4", 240, 4.7,
could readily develop into another solid force as a defensive end.

Yes, and he should stay eligible thanks to the fact that TCU's academics are not as challenging as SMU's. (Recruit's words)

I have to give Patterson credit for being the best recruiter at small skrools. He has found some diamonds at programs you have never heard from. How about getting 3 players from tiny Maud, Texas. BUS is bigger than Maud Texas!

Not to mention that Maud(e) also gave us the busty Adrienne Barbeau.

every team in the State of Texas and Oklahoma knew about the Maud squad from the earliest months of recruiting season. Two were very highly ranked and I think all were 3+ Stars

If he enrolls in JUCO then enters in next Jan, he won't really be a gray shirt since he will have just lost a year of eligibility.
You have 5 years to play 4. The point of Grayshirt is to enroll him in NEXT year's class (2011) and start the clock. he'd be essentially a 6th year senior. You do this, ideally, to push underdeveloped players into the future.
This kid is a project and is skinny. Perhaps 3 semesters he'll be more like an incoming DE.

He's a project either way. If he can maintain his speed with 40 more pounds, then he might work out. If he slows to 5.0, then he needs to play LB

As long as he does not enroll for 12 hours or more he is okay to greyshirt and enroll in January 2011.

he's is a nice prospect-geez. Quit dumping on a guy we were praising a couple of days ago. Anyway he isn't really going to JUCO to play football. You are allowed to greyshirt and take some Community College/JUCO credits. SMU's greyshirts did. One advantage of a greyshirt is that you can still redshirt him and he will be graduating in his 6th college year if he does

I agree with Stallion. As much as I'd like to tell him to f-off for decommitting, we probably shouldn't berate a kid for choosing a school he really wanted to go to/felt was best for him.
Too bad for him that he'll be missing out on the SMU experience and education, but aside from being in Fort Worth
, I'm sure TCU is also a fun school.
Good luck to him and hopefully this may open up an opportunity for another kid who really wants to be here.
