East - your are nuts on the Rice/Tulane thing. We will know our football future is bright when we are not in conference with them. They are like we were 7 yrs ago. Bad with no hope, but even worse - never even had any history to remember. If we tie up to them they will drag us down - we need to reach up for something better and let go of those sinking stones.

TCU plays weak schedules year after year? Please site what years you're referring to.

MWC Decides Not to Expand
SALT LAKE CITY -- The Mountain West Conference will not expand further to include either Utah State or Hawaii as a full member.
The conference board of directors on Tuesday issued a statement saying the configuration already established works best going forward.
The announcement came at the conclusion of its annual meeting in Las Vegas, where topics included television contracts, membership and efforts to change the Bowl Championship Series structure.
The Mountain West will have eight members as of July, with BYU and Utah departing and Boise State joining current members TCU, New Mexico, UNLV, San Diego State, Colorado State, Wyoming and Air Force.
In July 2012, TCU departs and Fresno and Nevada join in all sports. Hawaii joins the MWC in football only, while its other teams will compete in the Big West.

I know Rice and Tulane's football is bad. So is Duke's. But guess what Navy plays those schools regularly, as well as SMU. Why? Maybe to get an easy win, but also because they know the playing field is level with those schools. Players at those schools have similar academic backgrounds. So, when I said, Navy and AFA might like to be in a conference with them due to their ACADEMICS, I was not kidding, nor am I crazy. Lest you forget, there was a brief discussion when CUSA first got raided by the BE to start a sort of Magnolia League including Army, Navy, SMU, Rice, Tulane, Tulsa and some other schools. Navy will not join a conference full of state institutions, they might join a conference with a mixture of state and private institutions. My personal view is that they cherish their independence and will never join a conference.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna

Pretty much every year except for 2009. I guess to be fair, I should say if we follow TCU's path we'll have a schedule that will allow for 8+ win every year. MWC is no SEC, Big 12, Big 10, etc...not by a long stretch. So other than your occasional game against Utah or BYU (when they were having a good year), no real quality wins usually came out of MWC play (with a few exceptions over the last decade). Prior to 2009, TCU should get credit for scheduling some pretty tough non-conference games, but TCU lost the vast majority of the harder games--the 2005 win against Oklahoma being an exception (if only you hadn't lost to SMU that year...shucks). By 2009 you beat your hard non-conference opponents because you finally had a better team (attracted by all the "wins"). 2010 was your year to strike since your team was actually good but you had scheduled non-conference powers of 5-7 Oregon St, 6-6 Tennessee Tech, 7-5 Baylor, and 7-5 SMU (which you were losing to in the 3rd quarter). Real strong stuff there.
In any case, I'm not criticizing TCU; I'm saying SMU should follow the model.
Oh yeah, get off the SMU board!
What SMU may find out if they ever get to the point of being able to win a tough game against a quality team is that those teams will no longer schedule you. Clemson learned in 09 that paying someone 1 million to go into Death Valley on a rainy day doesn't guarantee a win. Teams sure as hell aren't going to go into Fort Worth and they aren't going to pay 1 million to get out of having to go to Fort Worth and still lose at home.
Everyone thinks it's so easy just to schedule Oklahoma, Texas, Florida and Notre Dame. Well it is easy if you don't pose a threat to those teams. SMU is actually good for those teams to schedule because you're now more competitive than just an intrasquad scrimmage but still don't pose a real threat to winning the game.
Not trash talking, just telling the truth.

He did and gets to play this coming season. Last season was not a great one but I gotta give it to the kids for their effort. There were at least 5 starters out with injuries and they were still able to beat bYu and almost beat Oklahoma. We did pretty well with recruiting, even with the conference mess, and are looking forward to a productive season. Coach Andersen faces a similar situation to what Coach Jones did when he arrived at SMU. He has now taken over the Defense and rumor has it that we are switching to the 3-4 which should be exciting. As far as hoops goes, I think we're #21 right now with a HUGE fan base. I'm proud to say that we stuck to our commitment throughout the conference craziness and although honesty and integrity alone does not win games it certainly does help with good karma. We are proud to be Aggies and just as proud of the success of SMU!!!! Best wishes to the Mustangs this coming season!!!!

Until SMU fans are willing to plan their fall weekends around football games and take a trip or two during the season we'll always be behind. I know we've had a million threads on this, but it's honestly one of our biggest off the field problems. We need to draw a more mainstream crowd like TCU has done over the last 5 years, and the only way I see that happening is 9+ wins a year consistently.
the truth hurts...but Dallas is "trendy" and a "band wagon" sports town, so there is always hope. It has to start with the most "trendy" of all (SMU students) jumping on board. Student attendance was much improved at Ford this year and there are signs that they might even rediscover Moody
