RGV,
Don't mean to get off subject, but I noticed you mentioned you have businesses in McAllen and Brownsville. A gentlemen I know here in Midland had moved to Port Isabel, after selling his drilling company for a nice sum of money, to build boats. He was building boats for I.C.E.. He moved back to Midland after he shuttered his boat building business due to threats from the Drug Cartels coming over from Mexico. They were threatening his family, if he did not stop building the boats for I.C.E. He also stated the Cartels were demanding weekly protection money from the businesses in the Valley. Have you heard anything like this going on?

I hear conflicting stuff about that. One of my employees on Dallas owns a home in Camargo(across the border). Goes back every couple of weeks. He says up there, the gulf coast cartel finally pushed the zetas out of that part of tamaulipas, making it less dangerous. He says the gcc is the old guard, and the zetas are not only the ex Mexican special forces, but a lot of young kids too who don't think before acting. I have friends and family who are border patrol as well as state troopers and its an interesting situation down there.
What I wouldn't be surprised to see sooner or later is one if the companies like Halliburton start to employ contractors like the former blackwater to protect their interests.
As for your question, I would guess anyone involved w trucking, shipping etc could be exposed to such things.

Can anybody give a definitive answer as to what the problem is with our building an IPF? I have been under the impression that the money was available. Is it totally where to build?

Before the chilly weather hit North Texas, Green Bay was scheduled to practice at SMU's Gerald J. Ford Stadium this week. But the icy conditions have forced the Packers to practice inside at Highland Park High School.
On Tuesday, the Packers stopped at SMU to get dressed before heading to the indoor facility in Highland Park.
Packers coach Mike McCarthy held a team meeting Wednesday morning to explain the new procedure which will cut out the middle man.
"Yesterday, we did all our meetings and walk-throughs here [Omni Mandalay Las Colinas] at the hotel, and then we went over to SMU to dress and then went on to Highland Park High School, so we just eliminated the step of going to SMU for dress," McCarthy explained. "We're going to do everything here like we did yesterday for meetings and walk-throughs, and then we're going to dress here and tape. There are just some adjustments that need to be made and then we'll go right from here to Highland Park."

"A high school in Texas is a little different from most schools," said Green Bay coach Mike McCarthy, whose team was originally slated to use SMU’s field.
As for Pittsburgh, it worked out at TCU’s indoor facility, though it wasn’t heated and hovered around 40 degrees.

The fact that the Packers moved their practice indoors this week to Highland Park High School must irk SMU head coach June Jones, who for years has wanted a similar facility for his Mustangs. And, let's face it, that's kinda embarrassing. Highland Park football > SMU football?

TCU's indoor facility is basically an metal shed. It isn't air conditioned in any way. From the above quote, you can tell it isn't heated either, but who really needs it to be?
It all boils down to the fact that SMU doesn't have bond money to spend and can't build a metal shed in the Park Cities. Accordingly, whatever SMU build's is going to have a higher cost than what TCU spent. It is all there is to it.

An IPF is a must. Top 25. I know we play in the elements, but we don't have to prepare to be miserable. Put the game plan in motion in a desired setting. In Dec 2009, we're prepping for the Hawaii Bowl in freezing weather. Players were getting sick, slick field increases chance of injury. That prep time was clearly indicative that we need an IPF. Highland Park's facility is excellent. Just copy theirs. Cost can be under-written and the facility can be a multi-purpose use. We certainly could have used the pub this week during the SB prep week. Every time SMU is mentioned is a positive. Despite the weather this week, Arlington will host another SB. Hopefully, SMU will have an IPF by then.
