Perfect example of the inexact science of scouting I guess. Cunningham is a top 100 player nationally according to rivals, but 33rd in the state of texas according to their affiliate site. Harp was the #14 player in the state, known as a great shooter, yet has made his greatest contributions at SMU through D/hustle and scoring close to nill...

The texashoops.com rankings are based on the GASO tourneys in the summer, not much of anything else. The national rivals hoops site is on the rebound, but lacked national analysts for quite sometime, so their evaluations were mostly based on what few AAU events their guys covered. Inexact science to say the least. ESPN seems to have a fascination for the West Coast, Scout lost Telep etc.

Great? Well, isn't that special. Maybe somebody forgot to tell the coach we need to be recruiting basketball talent that can get us into the NCAA tournament. I don't think the selection committee will consider the argument for "great role models". No one has insinuated that any team member is a "bad person". I would have to say they are all good people. There are some that are just not very good D1 basketball players.

Pretty sure Doh thought he was getting a guy who would take us to the tournament when he recruited the #14 player in the state, to go along with another guy with offers from Louisville and OU.
Our issues during the Doh regime run a lot deeper than the use or misuse of the word "great."
Does it suck that Harp didnt pan out like we'd hoped in college bball? Yep. Does it suck that he missed a layup the other day? Yep. Did I [deleted] about said missed layup? Yep. Does it mean we wouldnt pursue the same guy all over again? Nope.

Bergermeister and RGV Pony are prime examples of posters who need to go to another site. You are probably guys that didn't make your high school team or got cut and still upset. You need a life! Seriously! Let Coach Doherty continue to coach and YOU TWOgo back to "well" [deleted] about something else. My guess is your both losers. I played college basketball and coach on the College and NBA level and think Doh and staff are doing a great job. He should get coach of the year in Conference USA.

By the way, my guess is that most of the basketball players will graduate and it is tough to get into SMU. Yes, we would all like to get to the NCAA Tournament. I say we are doing things the right way, trying to get the best student-athlete possible that can help us win in a league that most of the schools have much "lower" academic standards than SMU. Let Coach Doh and his staff continue to do the right thing. We have won 6 out of our last 8 games with Rice coming to town who just beat Memphis. We need to special turnout and "true" fans who will support the team. I appreciate all the players and the effort they give on the floor. This might be the least talented team in a few years but a "team" who gives a 100 percent effort.

Show me in the context of this thread where I disagree with your opinion of doh's job this season. Fact is I don't.
Reread my post.
Get to know someone before you opine as to who or what you think they are and what you think they should do.

Do you feel better now? Are you more confident that you can "dish" a kid or players in your case hiding behind a computer? Have you ever played basketball on the high school or college level? Be honest! I would say not.

And to you Bergermeister, we did get to the NCAA Tournament and were number 1 in the nation in football. Remember! Oh, that's right, we got the death penalty and the NCAA was looking at the basketball program. Is that what you want again? Hide behind that computer. Your doing well. Blow your chest out and look into the mirror.

are you posting on the right thread? i dont think your comments here are consistent with what RGV or Berger said.
Plus, i thought message boards were for people to discuss opinions. if we all had the same thoughts, that would be a pretty boring read.

How does Bergermeister base his statement of "we don't have good players? Is he a scout, great evaluator of players, or what in your opinion. Last time I check Papa Dia was in the running for player of the year? Does Berger know something we don't? Does he watch the same Papa I do every night with NBA scouts attending games? He must be a really good evaluator of talent.

RGV, Hey here is an idea! Why don't you recruit for SMU. Give the names of some players to Coach Doh. You seem to fall into that expert catagory or think you are. It is not up to you to determine who is a good basketball player at SMU and who is not. That is the coaches job. We all want to win games and put the best possible players on the floor
