And apparently those schools aren't fighting Arkansas St, NTSU, Rice, and Louisiana Tech for 3rd tier commitments in their own state. It actually appears that they canvassed their own state, got their offers out early and are going head to head for the Top Florida talent while SMU got about 9 offers out early and has trickled a few more out casually to recruits generrally not in the Texas Top 150

They don't have to offer as many in-state recruits, but I would hope that you're not suggesting Burton is a third-tier Florida recruit.

Where do you stand on Burton? Or are you dodge this too just like you did with Marks?

I mean, is it even a question that at this point Burton is a third tier Florida recruit? No offers for any of the big 3 schools there, and only offers from bottom feeders in the Big 10 and SEC.

My interpretation of third tier is going against the likes of Texas State and Sun Belt schools. We beat out several MAC schools and a couple of lower BCS schools. To me, it's like a second-tier recruit..

It really doesn't matter. He's committed. The coaches think he can play. And if you know Junes' track record, he does do a good job of developing players.

I just joined the site, because I am a friend of Adrian Burton's mom. I have spoken to her since she returned from Texas this past weekend. I can tell you, this woman has been around football since she was in diapers. She had nothing but good things to say about SMU's coaching staff, as well as their academics and the people she met. Adrian and his mom, think the right staff is in place to take SMU far in the very near future. Adrian is an excellent athlete and you can also view more video on him, in camps and 7on7 tournaments. As far as the interest from the big three, we have seen the star ratings and unless you see these kids in person, don't feed too much into them. Just because kids to not receive offers from the BCS, does that mean, that he cannot play? How many times have we seen kids get recruited by what you call "big time" programs and end of being a dud? But we have seen kids come to programs like SMU and their coaching staffs end up playing on Sundays. Mom is singing SMU praises since being back home and she is well known in the football community here!!!! So, Pony Up!!! You got yourselves a Soldier!!! We can't wait to bring some of South Florida to the Hilltop!!!

This was in Rivals, after his 7on7 team stunned the nation with their second title win in Alabama this past summer:

Adrian Burton, 5-10/175, CB, Pompano Beach (Fla.) Blanche Ely
OFFERS: Indiana, Northern Illinois, and SMU.
STRENGTHS: A very solidly-built corner that plays with confidence and swagger. Burton has a nice, low backpedal and possesses hips on a swivel. Also claims to be a good student which will attract more schools.
WEAKNESSES: He is very aggressive picking up receivers at the line of scrimmage and has to be conscious how much contact he has after the five-yard buffer zone.
CONCLUSION: I thought he was the best true corner based on size and change of direction so it is a bit of a head scratcher that he only has these three offers. His high school is known for producing high-quality defensive backs.

We need more corners willing to play tight on the line of scrimmage.

One of the best complements a player can get. Can't have enough on your team. Welcome to the Hilltop!

More and more, it seems to come down to what is inside a recruits head--"Does he really want to play football?" "Does he have the dicipline to balance football with his schoolwork?" Those two questions are difficult for a coach to assess, and probably accounts for the number of top recruits that never make it. It looks like this kid has got the support he needs to answer "yes" to both questions.

Adrian looks to be a good pickup.
After visiting camps at OU, Iowa State, Vanderbilt, Texas Tech, TCU, and Kansas State I found that they give each of their staff certain towns, regions, and states to recruit. It seems the majority of them have at least 6-9 guys recruiting. In the camps they divided the potential recruits with the coach{scout] from their region. They also visited with their potential position coach. Don't know how the Ponies do it. The great recruiting schools send out personal letters and visit with them on Facebook when legal to do it. They know a personal contact is much better than just flooding them with printed matter.

Glad to have Adrian at The Hilltop. We have just opened a major door to Florida recruiting.

Very good comments on him by a Florida Analyst at Scout.com. Here it is:

Adrian Burton was one of the best players on a very good Ely team in 2010. He emerged as one of the top defensive backs in Broward County. He's very athletic and can jump, and change directions very well. He shows the physical ability to come up and support the run and isn't afraid to mix it up with bigger receivers. Because of his physical nature of play, he often plays bigger than he is. It's helped that he plays with 4-star receiver Avery Johnson, who he competes with every day in practice

Nick,
Maybe we don't do enough of it. I don't think that's fair to accuse the staff of flat out not doing that.

Obviously, when we're in the non in-person contact phase of recruiting, we need to burn up their personal facebook accounts and get them to call the coaches. It's hard to know how much of that SMU is doing. The stories on the pay sites are really the only way to judge it and even that's not ironclad.

How do you know SMU isn't doing this? Do you have documentation or verbal testimony to validate this?

If you're confident in your information, fine. That's really disappointing to hear that.

Is there way to know if this recent meeting with Klemm addressed those issues.
