If black jerseys were all it took to get them excited, they might have come out a little more fired up against Army and actually scored more than 15 points.

I think you need to do some reading. We wouldn't even be discussing uniforms if it wasn't for Oregon. Their success has everything to do with uniforms and being able to grab attention on a national level and recruit players from across the country.
I think most of you here know I started following this team when JJ arrived. I have followed him since his USFL days, to the NFL, Hawaii and now SMU. And I will say this about uniforms... He did the right thing in changing Hawaii from the Rainbow Warriors in green to the Warriors in black. Hawaii had bad-ass uni's under JJ and everyone knows that in today's world, rainbows are associated w/ a group of people not typically associated w/ a tough football team.
And when he arrived here and the helmet and uni changed... once again, the change was great. No offense to you long-standing Mustang fans, but the blue helmets sucked, the white helmet w/ the blue pony sucked and the dark, navy blue uni's sucked. JJ's first year here... the blue home uni's and the white road uni's w/ the white helmet... they are one of the best looking uniforms in all of football; college or pro.
The only change I would like is the road uni's to have blue numbers to offset all the red. I would have them wear blue at home every game too. But black??? For SMU??? No. I am not feeling it. If uniforms actually factor into a kid's decision on which school to go to, do you really want someone so shallow on your team? And... if kids are that into uniforms... then all JJ has to do is show recruits some of these absolutely asinine uniforms like Maryland, Texas Tech's new look, Georgia'sPro Combat as well as many other school's and just ask them... would you like to look like total $hite or would you prefer to look classy?
Because SMU has a VERY CLASSY look right now. Don't f### that up.
Great points. Our white unis are very classy and should not be changed. I also preferred the blue jerseys to the red but that is not a big issue. So many schools have gone to outlandish unis not because they really wanted to but because the uni sponsors made them do it for marketing purposes.

I'll never understand how JJ doesn't see how great this look is:

The blue helmets were Bennett's bast*rd creation. When he went, they went. We had white before him, we have white after him.

It's beautiful.
This is even better - no stripes:
