I didnt see anything about payment problem, but if you are right than how do they expect to stay as a bowl.
Again, I'll end my criticism of the hawaii bowl with this: If the players truly want it then Im 100% for it. If its just June who wants it, I'll be 100% against him. I personally could travel to any other bowl game (because of date and cost), however if we have enough people who can go to Hawaii then awesome. I still hope they win no matter which bowl they go to. Im just tired of having Big 12 friends saying SMU was and will be nothing short of an FCS team. I wanted them to play a reputable team, whether it be Iowa or BYU, rather than Hawaii, so fans (including me) can say yes SMU is entitled to a future BCS bowl game and also to be able to see another bowl game with SMU.
If you want the TicketCity Bowl you should know that while Iowa or Illinois are probably the favorites to be selected, Northwestern is making a run for Bowl eligibility again after two upsets and beating Nebraska(haha). Northwestern might get dumped in that bowl again-I think TicketCity gets 8th pick-9th if there are 2 Big 10 teams in BCS. Northwestern is 4-5 BUT would be Bowl eligible by beating Rice and Minnehaha in next 2 weeks. SMU v. Northwestern would be a problem with attendance. I personally wonder if Southern Miss would prefer the Beef o Brady or TicketCity Bowl against a Big 10 team. Southern Miss has always been dumped into the NO/Sun Belt Classic-so they want a nice matchup.

When momentum starts rolling downhill in recruiting-WATCH OUT.
If SMU goes back to Hawaii, I will probably take the family again. But they only want to stay on Maui. Maui was nice the last time and it is a short ride over to Honolulu. Christmas in Hawaii ain't bad Mustang fans.

I would say the last trip helped the program very much. Rich alums were happy. Band was happy. Horses of all sizes were happy. Players were happy. Many fans were happy. All of that leads to more program support.

1. Tell them to go jump in a lake. 2. Beating a 7-5 or 6-6 Big 10 team won't prove SMU is BCS worthy. SMU can only prove that by winning in the regular season and bowl games CONSISTENTLY.
But the only way Ill retract my statement that the Ticketcity or AFB bowl is better for smu that hawaii, is if the team actually says we want the hawaii bowl (not with june around or anything).
SMU_Alumni11, If I understand your statement correctly, if you ask a 20 year old kid if he would rather stay in Dallas and play a bowl game in your hometown, where the chances are the weather could be cold and gray as opposed to going to Hawaii, spending a week at the beach looking at girls in bikinis and playing football. I am going to go out on a limb and say they pick Hawaii.

Just responding: 1) Yes a lake of lavish bowl wins and bragging rights 2) Relative to hawaii, it would be much better since they are in an AQ conference. Of course winning is better, but look if you could win both bowl games, wouldnt your rather beat an AQ team than a non-AQ team?

Well since Im around that age yes, unless you live off your parents, any regular college student would rather go to a bowl game they can afford to go to. If indeed you are rich little snob than yeah i guess you rather go to hawaii. However a previous post said it correctly rich alums have an excuse to go to hawaii and players get a free trip to hawaii (to enjoy the island not the game). Weather is irrelevant to me, I have been through all the nice and crappy weather games. Now if our players dont care that much about having a chance at the NFL and just want to enjoy the perks than they have that choice. But continually going to irrelavant bowl games, where nation could care less, will keep the program down.

Whether SMU beats a seven win Hawaii team or a 6 or 7 win Big 10+2 team, I just do not see it having much impact one way or another other than it will be a good win. As for your friends, they will always look at smu from the negative point of view.
I want Hawaii Bowl since Liberty Bowl is out of the question. AFB last year was boring. The Nevada game was awesome. Probably the most excited i have ever been for a fb game. I would be way more pumped about watching June Jones play Hawaii than watch us play Purdue or Northwestern... Plus I am not a huge fan of Christmas stuff, so I have an excuse to get out of X-Mas eve...

Yeah, no im sure you are right. I just wants best for the program, and Im hoping BE will pan out well and maybe win consistently there to get reputation. Anyways for all those who want to go Hawaii, I do hope it turns out like the Nevada game so it can be exciting. I on the other hand well hope for ticketcity or somewhere I can travel and really wanting to see BE invite so I can look forward to 2013.
