I don't refer to myself as Big Chocolate or any other nickname. That's a name someone threw out there once and it stuck with my friends. I'm sure Mestengo will run with it though.

LMAO I love that name.
I was wondering when you were going to pop up on this thread I am 97% color blind and you know this.

Its not just about the lunches guys and its a bigger picture and an indicator....it would be nice to have more support from the southern section of Dallas at our football games as well. Why don't we see more black students, ex black students and black families here at SMU events?...do we still have the rich stuffy perception?...how do we connect with the southern sector?...and stop it about brothers etc...BS ...its no dis-respect and played much basketball in the 70's where I was one of the only white guys on the team, so that's where it came from. And Dutch I go to 1st and 10 for away games that I can't make, and there are NO black fans there joining us to cheer SMU FWIW. Sorry but it's the elephant in the room and if it makes you uncomfortable talking about it...too bad.
neither 1st and 10 is located near african-american populations. that is just how it is. they are not destinations like a Hooters or Twin Peaks either. both bars are designed to be neighborhood bars; hence, the names are Plano's 1st and 10 and Lakewood's 1st and 10.
To the same effect, the Radisson at the edge of HP is like the whitest part of Dallas. If you want a more diverse group, the lunch would have to move between regions of Dallas; however, you are then making it more difficult for SMU athletics department staff to get there. Not to mention the fact that sponsors of that event are nearby.

Ha- I am honestly trying to buy a chocolate lab. Unfortunately good ones here in Peru are hard to find and very expensive when you do.
I have attended a number of luncheons and have always enjoyed them. I actually like listening and learning from Mason and Morrison more than JJ. Plus they are normally very funny..
Those who haven't been to a luncheon should really try to get to one.
ponyscott wrote:BS----Just saying and noticing...it is, or was like today, a room full of white, mostly older fans....is there a reason why brothers don't attend or are we not cool?....why don't we have ALL folks at the lunches. It IS a fund raiser by the way. I asked a few others at the table I was sitting at today and there IS a silent question.....no biggie, but there are a lot of people of color that have gone to SMU and we don't see them in proportion to the rest of us. Join us! Is IT wrong to ask? There are thousands of blacks that have gone to SMU through the years and SMU is STILL known as a rich private WHITE school....so why is it wrong to mention this?..its not racist, or is it?
okay, since everyone is giving ponyscott grief, I'll just say that I think this is a reasonable and valid observation and question, however it is worded.
+1
Reasonable question. And great responses by smudubs

I got there late and actually sat right behind you actually. Had to rush back to work so I left during defensive film. Did not have any questions I needed answered, although I am curious how mason came to marry the sister of his former player. Has to be a story there.
Oh, sorry I didn't see you. He said both her brothers played for him. wild stuff.
Maybe he meant "Brothers", not brothers.
Beef and fish were served. Both were a a bit overdone. The mashed potatoes were decent enough. I wish they would stop rolling out the same steamed vegetable tray every week. The chocolate cake must have been good, cause it was gone by 12:05, after Gardner's metaphor/fable/concert review. All that was left was very dry strawberry shortcake and mushy cheesecake. Overall, I think the weakest food they have had all year. The waitstaff needs to make one more round with the water before the film session.
My overall perception of the team after hearing the coaches: we are where we should be.
