I wonder if maybe some of you guys have never set foot outside of Dallas? Lots of nice locations out there and I don't fault the team at all for wanting to see another part of the country. Bowl games are supposed to be a reward. Staying home is a bit of a let down. Didn't we see that last year?
If they can still get into hawaii, great. Otherwise, Tampa/St Pete is not too shabby this time of year

JJ is from oregon - he is a pretend hawaiian
i dont blame them for wanting to go to hawaii for the bowl - i just think it doesnt take a rocket scientist to figure out it is smarter to embrace the culture of where you work (and draw a nice paycheck) and not sit around openly pining for some other place. It is like a rude guest who talks about the cool party he just left that he wishes he was still at.
just keep it to yourself. It is common sense. And RS i think you have a hang up or two dude. Dallas is not hick and if you think it is you dont get out much. And if readily available prostitutes is on your short list for great things about hawaii, i think we are begining to see you may have some other issues.

What the hell are you doing on this board? You are obviously not an SMU grad nor a fan of our university.
First, I am no pretentious snob- I worked my way through SMU and am proud that I did.
Second, next season when I travel to Dallas you can rest assured I will ask some of those questions at the coaches luncheons- and it won't be in a manner that can be misunderstood.
Third, job left to do- yea, sucking a little over 2 mil a year out of our university/alums. If they were attached to a dogs rear-end they would be called leaches.
Lastly, the little school on the hill happens to be very highly rated academically and home to some of the most successful people in the U.S. I realize that half-breed islanders may not understand academics.
Hick town? Dallas. That comment shows your total ignorance. Dallas is considered one of the most cosmopolitan cities in the country if not the world.
Left paradise? Are you referring to those drug infested islands in the Pacific inhabited by undereducated people that rely on the economics of tourists to survive?
You should be grateful that most SMU fans just dismiss your comments as stupidity.
GO PONIES!!!

R & S Fan is obviously still butt hurt that JJ left and his successor Greg McMackin lost to the Fat [deleted] Charlie Weis 49-21 after calling out ND ...
"The night before the game ... Charlie gave this talk, and then he goes, 'Any Notre Dame fans in here?' ... He had his guys, 'We do something special at Notre Dame,' he said, and they get out and they do this little cheer ... like this ... this little fag_got dance. ... So my guys are looking at me ... and they're all trying not to laugh ... So our guys get up and it's the best Haka I've ever seen. ... It was a little scary. So I think Notre Dame watched that and said 'We better have ourselves ready.'"
RSFan, the way JJ runs the R & S at SMU is an unknown as we are still waiting to see the "Shoot" after four (4) years!
I live in socal in a waterfront home and I would relocate to Dallas 1000 times over before ever living in Hawai'i again.
FYI I had wheels, unlimited. cash, friends, ladies, golf clubs, rackets, surfboards, fishing and scuba gear, and numerous Kanaka and Haole friends when I attended the University of Hawai'i.
Hawai'i is a great resort it just lacks the unlimited amenities of socal and even Dallas.
Nice try but the coaches need to stop dissing SMU and embrace the culture they chose or leave.
McMackin looks like a tool with his leis even in Hawai'i but JJ leis in North Texas are beyond ridiculous.
The whole power trip to change tradition is also too egocentric to discuss.
BTW I love the Black Unis and the Haka dance stolen from the All Blacks Rugby club!

They are Locals at heart from Hawaii not Texans or pretentious social snobs from SMU. I am sure they never intended to become or act like you. If you don't like them write a letter to Ford or go to lunch and state your silly case. I would bet if you asked them they would all love to go home but they would probably tell you they still have a job to do at SMU.
As for those who can't find something to do in Hawaii I assume you didn't have a car or cash or still had your boots on or maybe just plain losers. The rests of you drunks can find twenty night clubs that stay open until four in the morning. If you like women they are healthy beautiful and everywhere. Strip joints your thing, twenty girls each of every kind. If hookers are your thing season opens at midnight.
Now if you love the ocean, beaches, sailing, golf, hiking, surfing, windsurfing, biking, swimming, diving, football snow skiing,.... oh and some of the best weather and fresh air on the planet... everything is at your fingertips.
If you are just homesick for Dallas, SMU and all the crying and moaning... well I guess you just gotta go home where you are around others who you feel comfortable with at that little school on the hill.
So get over it.... those coaches left paradise to take on a project/job in a hick town that has an end date. When completion comes they will all be gone. Expecting them to be like you will never happen. I suggest you hire a Texan from Dallas who played for SMU during the death penalty.
Alohaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
Who is this doucher?
I spent a week in Hawaii- it was awesome, but I couldn't wait to leave after seven days. It felt like the big capital city of a third world country.

The coaches act disappointed if we are in Dallas for a bowl game and I think this translates over to our players and had a huge effect on our performance last year in the AFB. They should be begging CUSA and the bowls for a shot to take on BYU or a BIG 10 team since they are the most legitimate competition. If you cant get pumped to play either of those teams then you aren't much of a player or coach.
I would be just fine if we play in Hawaii or wherever but this get to hawaii or anywhere else at all costs bit is getting tired. They should be happy to be wherever instead of acting with this sense of entitlement.

I have been to Dallas a few times. I saw your tourist attraction Dealey Plaza. Not much else there to see. You have a few ponds but most of all Plenty of hicks and snobs who upon leaving Texas don't fit in anywhere. The weather sucks, bone chilling in the winter and too hot in the summer............
SMU ... my son and his wife both went to grad school there. When I called my son to talk of the Jones hire he asked me if I thought Jones was up to the challenge of dealing with SMU. He still lives in Dallas, has Mavrick tickets, Cowboys tickets, Bears tickets, he entertains in his business. However to date has not been to a SMU game. There seems to be something he does not want to be a part of or share with his clients there.
As for me I follow Jones and the team and enjoy some of the quality commentary on Ponyfans. I still want to see the R&S run like I have seen it run in the past. However I don't know if I can put up with you Ponyfans long enough to see it happen again. I don't know if the Jones boys can deal with much more either. So maybe if you keep the assault on the coaches and team they will all leave and you can find your happiness and the Jones boys can come home to the islands (with your chump change).

Well, then you would have just verified my belief that June came here to fatten his retirement account and then take off when he felt like he was done soaking the CofC.
We were here before June Jones got here. We'll be here when he leaves.
So you can put that in conspiracy ruptured thinking and shove it, buddy!

I like how you rip the lack of tourist attractions in your first paragraph and then proceed to point out all the competition for entertainment SMU has in DFW in the next paragraph. That was great.
The vast majority of SMU fans are completely and totally grateful and supportive of what JJ has done here. We don't really understand why he wears black polos and a lei on the sideline and puts our team in black jerseys for a bowl game, but we don't really care. 3 bowls in 3 years is awesome by our standards. I realize you're upset that JJ left Hawaii, I'd be pretty upset if he ends up leaving SMU for another job as well. But there's no reason to rip the city he left UH for- most of us like it just fine, after all, you're on an SMU message board.
And again, Hawaii is great for a week, but at some point you have to get a job that pays well and live in the real world, and Honolulu isn't really conducive to that. Also, the women in Dallas are about 100x more attractive than you'll find anywhere in Hawaii. So, yeah, we'll take our wives and girlfriends there for a visit to your islands, but just like June did, we'll soon leave to return to greener pastures on the Mainland. Thanks for keeping the national unemployment rate up.
Sincerely,
ECM
