But in all seriousness, next time this comes around the university, if possible not sure legality, but find an up and coming coach with good indicators, great charisma to recruit, and offer him a 10 year contract that has heavy penalties to break the contract and only the school can break it without penalities and offer him a decent salary. That way for him, he has a high paying job, for the most part job security, mentality that the school wants you to be in it for the long haul and he has no choice.
You would overpay someone with that structure. The coach would be stupid to take his market value over such a long contract. He will demand a risk premium since you have effectively moved all the risk onto him (no penalties for school breaking contract)

What about Luke Fikkel? Ohio State is gonna show him the door and I think he actually did a hell of a job with the dumpster fire he got handed in Columbus, suspended players, NCAA investigation that his old boss handed to him and what not plus he's a young guy.
Ron English at Eastern Michigan - excellent Football coach he's turning them around like crazy, really fiery dude and Mike Hart would be coming with him. Can't say the first season or 2 would be pretty because it would mean changing philosophy 180 degrees about what winning football is.
Frank Solich at Ohio U. He got the shaft at Nebraska and the Bobcats have been consistent winners in the MAC since he showed up.
Or maybe June Jones if he isn't leaving.
My suggestion though would be look to the MAC I don't know what it is about the MAC but my god have there ever been some incredible coaches to come out of that league over the years Hayes and Schembechler, Parsehgian, Holtz, Urban Meyer the list seems to go on and on. And Brian Kelly, he'll win at Notre Dame if they don't fire him before he can.

I think JJ is staying. He just wanted to listen to what people had to offer. Its been a tough year for him and he's probably frustrated that attendance hasn't perked up or that Line and Padron were injured and getting a free trip to Arizona to play some golf, each rich food and be schmoozed is good for his psyche. If he leaves for whatever reason then I think that we'd be looking at a sizzle hire. Stoops would get a look. Bo Pellini may be on the curb soon at Nebraska from rumors I've heard. Imagine hiring Pellini with Gill as OC. Then there's Jim Tressel, bad boy of OSU coming to Death Penalty U. The guy has won at every level. Since OSU got a mere handslap from the NCAA, he may be acceptable. There are some good coaches out there available to be hired. Add in NFL coaches that will be on the shelf after this year. Jack Del Rio is a great coach.

We can pass on Gruden. He would have no interest in us. However, lots of names mentioned and many would be great candidates for us. I would have no problem with Tressel or Fikkel as well as Stoops, DelRio et al.
JJ just needs to decide where he is going. Enough of this bs. We need to get a coach that can hit the road running as recruiting time will be very short.
GO PONIES!!!

My sources are informing me it's now only
about 50/50 that June stays...maybe less.
I feel for the Mob Boss.
About to announce great news for the program as far as conference upgrade.
But the very same freaking week...we may lose our coach. (and recruits)
SteveO is earning his money this week!

Yes. Clock management skills and the ability to adjust to change is also a plus. Swing pass.
