I like St. Louis although it's certainly not for everyone. Lots of engineering firms (not sure how the job market is at those firms, though), cheap real estate, low cost of living.

Yeah. The weather sucks except for mid-April through June and September through very early November. The humidity is killer in the summer and the winter is...well, at least it's not Chicago.
But the plusses are there, too. Wineries and hills to the west of town, largest urban park in America with lots of free museums, etc.

The park is great. Great museums. Good beer culture. Overall very comfortable and friendly spot. But you might as well be in Dallas or any other mudwest city. Just stay in Lakewood or Kessler Park and get the benefits of a big city.

True...not really any personality in any midwest city.
