Our WR's have to read that and adjust their routes. GG has to read that and throw where the WR's are supposed to be (not where they go). Part of this is lack of practice by GG with our wideouts to get in synch.
I've always kind of wondered about this point to a degree because I have heard it said that the QB trot to the sideline is not to just get the play call but rather for JJ to tell the QB what he sees as potential weak points in the D to target. If that is true, and GG is still learning not only the scheme but how to work with his WR's as well, wouldn't it make sense for the WR nearest to the sideline to go over there with him? That way both the QB and a wideout are hearing the same thing and can communicate it to the rest of the group better. It's clear right now that either they don't see the same things, or they don't interpret it the same way. Some of that gets corrected with time, but maybe changing the communication style (for a bit) will speed up the learning curve.

I would say at least half of the plays were called by Preston giving hand signals after Uones gave him the play. And we ran no huddle hurry during the 3rd quarter of the SFA game.

Did you watch the same game. Did you see Sanders drop a sure TD pass, and another pass over the middle? How about DJ dropping a swing pass? Did you see the back shoulder fade to Al? How about the bombs to Al? How about the bootleg to Beas? Granted, not all the throws were great, he over threw Wilkerson, nearly had a pick, and Al made a fantastic catch along the sideline, but guess what? That's what this game is all about...it's a team sport. The Hawaii Bowl was our best offensive showing in the Jones era. Both sides of the ball dominated. And yes, the play-calling was good. Jones was on his home field and did well. Unfortunately, that's where it ended...

3 of those receivers are in the NFL (AR, ES, CB) and another should/could be after this year if he gets his act together (DJ)
Padron wasn't the anointed one everyone made him to be. those receivers made him look great.
Ok this is getting ridiculous...I agree with Dutch on THIS ONE POST by him totally

I liked pardon and couldn't agree more that ha ing those receivers are everything. Remember though KP was injured senior year of HS and played as a fresh in that bowl game so if he was sloppy no doubt he was inexperienced
agreed. i guess my point is that most of the mustang nation anointed him as the chosen one after finishing off a season against lesser talent and then having a month to prepare against the 117th ranked pass defense in the country w/ those receivers.
he may have been good, but not who 'we' thought he was.
having that kind of talent at receiver certainly makes a QB look better. who does GG have? DJ? he's proven to be mediocre this season. is that because there were better receivers to draw the D away from him last year to make him look better? and a healthy Zach for 9 games?

I really truly pray we have gems in the back up receiver position and they take spots. I would love to see young guys with amazing talent than old guys with the only talent
About the Defense: I think three? of the AM TDs were QB scrambles, plays that are impossible to defense because when a QB scrambles, it means the defense has stopped the intended pass play and everyone is out of position for a run. It also implies several missed tackles if the scramble goes for a lot of yards. One of Manzelles TD runs I thought Taylor Reed had him wrapped up fir a sack, but he wggles out. I've not seen that happen to Reed in a long time. And the defense was acceptable for more than the first quarter. I would say the first half for sure and some of the second half although the score was out of hand. And truly Aggies were the better team, so we were gonna lose anyway, On the Swope touchdown, we had Beau Barnes covering the short middle of the field like a linebacker, but he looked unprepared and no where near Swope. These kids can improve and I think they will based on this game. Our three games so far each in their ways have taught us many lessons and the coaches and Kids will respond.
