I guess I should have posted this here, not Houston favored by 1 ...sorry.

Houston is not Houston 2011, I don’t care how well they played the last 3 games or how well the new QB is doing … he is not CK. Yea I know, we are not SMU 2011. There are plenty of other treads currently active to jump on what I’m about to say.

1) Offense and GG has shown good/steady improvement every game and certainly the last 2-3 IMO. Long sustained drives, time of possession, better throws, less drops etc. We have stalled in the Red Zone .. success there would have made the last 3 games different. But, we still have shown some improvement there. I say we break that obstacle this time enough to put points on the board.
2) Just need the "D" to play like they have, minus the 1st half of Tulane. Which I think was being flat as a result of playing Tulane. No excuse, but we see it all the time in sports. Playing the hurry-up … we have had a lot of game time practice with this so far this season… and I don’t think we are as bad as most think on the board. All D’s struggle with this, that’s why the run the offense. We have some young guns in the secondary, so that will be a challenge. I think the front 7 can create some chaos (they need to), and I think they can stuff the run, which Houston wants to establish.

Prediction … close game, and a SMU victory.

That's what I'm hoping/thinking.

Keys to a win IMHO:

- Offense converts 3rd downs and red zone TDs (need 30+ points to win this one).
- We stop/slow down the run.
- We get lots of pressure on the QB.
(of course, winning the TO battle also helps).

Maybe JJ was installing new wrinkles last week at Tulane and went vanilla thinking a win was virtually assured. Thursday night game with national TV audience will have the Ponies pumped for revenge.

I honestly think that a lot of people are forgetting that it was the secondary that screwed the pooch against Tulane, we have lost three starters in hat dept and it showed. Had the secondary not been smoked we would h e won easily.

Ack! Stick to one thread...

Houston may not be Houston 2011, but then again Houston 2010 that went 5-7 beat SMU 45-20. The UH QB is the same as 2010 except he's a redshirt sophomore now instead of a true freshman playing his 3rd college game after being the 5th QB to play that season. Sadly the 2012 SMU QB is actually playing worse than the 2010 SMU QB.

I said WE would win seven games this year. Who is your team?
Indeed. Great post, ponyboy.
Now now you two no need to get hostile, I'm just being objective. They are still my team it's just that I predicted my team (SMU to clarify) would go 4-8 after AM game.

alum 11- 4-8 if we are lucky. I suspect it will be more like 3-9.

Yep that, and terrible play calling for the most important moments of the game (and terrible leadership in allowing your team to come out flat in the first half).

Unfortunately, the secondary is our weakness and we are about to play the most prolific passing offense in the conference (ranked #9 passing offense nationally according to ESPN).

Maybe UH will "Coog it". ;-)

"We do what we do", JJ calls games the same way no matter the opponent or situation. Don't expect much of a national TV audience with the NFL, MLB playoffs and Oregon playing on the same night, not to mention that the stadium will be virtually empty.

Thank goodness for more interesting venues that will shield the unsuspecting public from another possible embarrassing performance by jj and his staff.

Cougar King- OT- but at the bottom of your posts you have what looks like a UH fight song.
Do you know the author? My old hs band director was a guy named Wm. Bill Moffatt and I had heard that at one time he was the director at UH. Great person and very talented.

The classic Bill Moffitt Sound Power Series anybody who has ever played in a HS band would likely know well!

He was at UH from the late 60s into the 80s, and then moved on to Purdue - he was quite a legendary figure in the marching band world and came up with many innovations in both music and marching:

DFFH- thanks for the info. IIRC my hs was the first school he taught at after getting out of college. He was very demanding and both our concert and marching bands won many awards.
